Follow live reaction as West Ham fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final. West Ham’s first European semi-final in 46 years got off to a nightmare start - as Ansgar Knauff arrived late at the back post to head Eintracht Frankfurt ahead after just 48 seconds.

The hosts kept their composure and scored a deserved equaliser through Michail Antonio, after Jarrod Bowen had hit the post, and the striker stretched to steer Kurt Zouma’s knock-down over the line from a set-piece.

But it would be Eintracht Frankfurt who struck the next blow, as Daichi Kamada’s goal saw the visitors retake the lead as he eventually finished off a slick move through the West Ham defence. West Ham were frustrated in the closing stages, with Kamada coming closest as his shot deflected off Craig Dawson and onto the post.

And in stoppage time Bowen rattled the underside of the crossbar with a spectacular overhead kick as Frankfurt held on for the first-leg victory. It leaves West Ham with work to do in Germany next week. Relive the action from West Ham vs Eintracht Frankfurt, below:

57 mins: How do West Ham respond now then? They have already been behind once tonight. Another Frankfurt goal could kill the tie, but West Ham will feel they need to at least be level heading to Germany.

Fascinating final 30 minutes in store.

GOAL! West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt (Kamada, 54)

54 mins: FRANKFURT BACK IN FRONT AND WHAT A GOAL THIS IS!

Sensational one-touch football from Eintracht Frankfurt. Sow plays a wonderful one-two and finds himself inside the box with only the keeper to beat. His shot is parried away by Areola but Kamada is there to gobble up the rebound and poke home.

For a moment it looked like he might be offside, but he was level when Sow took the shot.

The visitors in front for a second time tonight.

West Ham 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

52 mins: West Ham welcoming the danger inside their own box as they attempt to play it out from the back. They do it successfully thanks to Declan Rice but for a moment there it looked as though Frankfurt were going to pinch it.

Frankfurt come again as Borre tries to clip a ball into Kostic but he puts too much on it.

West Ham 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

50 mins: Cresswell picks out Soucek on the edge of the area but his volley is mishit and drifts well wide. Decent opportunity. First passage of play for the hosts in this second period.

West Ham 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

50 mins: There is definitely something to be said for both teams being happy with a first leg draw when away goals are not a factor.

If the away goals rule was still in effect then West Ham would be desperate to score another. As it is now, you feel they may take their chances in Germany. Especially given Frankfurt’s away record in the Europa League has been better than at home.

Lindstrom then produces some fancy footwork to worm his way into the penalty area before a last-ditch tackle stops him in his tracks.
