Yellow warnings for snow and ice were in place across parts of the UK, with overnight temperatures falling to almost -13C in Scotland.
The Met Office warned that road and rail journeys could be disrupted due to the cold weather. Flights were also affected as airports struggled to clear snow.
Further snow and ice are expected.
North Wales Police force is dealing with multiple collisions caused by icy roads.
The force tweeted: "Please note that Gwaenysgor Hill near Prestatyn is closed due to a three-vehicle collision.
"Thankfully nobody is injured however the road is reported to be very icy so local authority colleagues are now in attendance.
"Please avoid the area."
Passengers have been complaining that some train stations are unsafe due to the snow.
Twitter user AufstehenUK posted a photo from Mossley Hill station, captioned:
"Northern Rail ignores the safety needs of it's passengers! Mossley Hill station Liverpool now! No clearing of snow and ice from platforms or walkways and slopes?"
The Met Office has warned that frost and ice are forming this evening. Drivers should take care when heading home tonight.

Chiltern Railways, which connects London with cities including Oxford and Birmingham, has warned commuters to leave extra time for their journeys home amid freezing temperatures.
Temperatures overnight on Wednesday plummeted to almost -13C in parts of Scotland, according to the Met Office.
Today travellers can expect dense freezing fog, and there will be rain and snow in the south.
Chicago O'Hare International, one of the US' busiest air hubs, has cancelled more than 1,500 flights due to "extreme cold weather".
The polar vortex currently sweeping northern US states led to temperatures falling to -40C, making it colder than Antarctica.
Travellers intending to fly to Chicago should check the flight status with their airline directly.
Meanwhile, travellers using Greater Anglia trains in or out of Liverpool Street this morning are advised to check before they travel as there could be some knock-on delays from urgent engineering work in Bethnal Green last night.
Buffalo Airport in Buffalo, New York State, has warned that the majority of its flights have been cancelled due to the winter weather.
Buffalo is a gateway to Niagara Falls, which has frozen over in parts:
An early departure from London Heathrow to Chicago has been cancelled this morning because of bad weather.
Later departures from London to the US' third-busiest airport are still showing as scheduled.
