From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A vintage display from Roger Federer took him past Rafael Nadal into the Wimbledon 2019 final in an eagerly-anticipated first grass court match between the great rivals for 11 years on Friday.

The 40th career meeting between the golden duo with 38 Grand Slam titles between them, swung this way and that before Federer seized control to claim a 7-61-6 6-3 6-4 victory.

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic now stands between the 37-year-old Federer, the oldest finalist here since Ken Rosewall in 1974, and a record-equalling ninth Wimbledon title in Sunday's showpiece

*Nadal 6-7(3) 3-1 Federer

NADAL BREAKS!

A break to love! Federer slices into the net.

A poor game from Federer, who perhaps has fatigued after a tight previous service game.

Nadal strikes first in the second set and it's the first break of the match!

Nadal 6-7(3) 4-1 Federer*

Nadal holds to 15 - the Spaniard has won 12 of the last 13 points.

One-sided now, Nadal dominating. Federer slightly lost his way.

Nadal 6-7(3) 4-1 Federer* (30-40)

Nadal on top in general rallies now, a few Federer errors on the forehand side.

BREAK POINT, for a double break for Nadal!

*Nadal 6-7(3) 5-1 Federer

NADAL BREAKS!

Federer shanks a forehand, and that should be the set.

Nadal serving for it.

Nadal 6-7(3) 6-1 Federer*

NADAL WINS THE SECOND SET!

An easy hold to love, and we're all-square on Centre!

Is this going to turn into a classic? We shall see, don't go anywhere!

Nadal 6-7(3) 6-1 1-1 Federer*

Two comfortable holds each to start the third set.

Important for Federer in particular to get back on track...

*Nadal 6-7(3) 6-1 1-2 Federer

Federer holds to love, easy as you like.

Already feels a little like the third set here... on serve early on.

Kieran Jackson12 July 2019 18:19

*Nadal 6-7(3) 6-1 1-2 Federer (30-30)

Federer seems to have re-found his mojo.

A gorgeous backhand down the line brings the score to 30-30...
