From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A vintage display from Roger Federer took him past Rafael Nadal into the Wimbledon 2019 final in an eagerly-anticipated first grass court match between the great rivals for 11 years on Friday.

The 40th career meeting between the golden duo with 38 Grand Slam titles between them, swung this way and that before Federer seized control to claim a 7-61-6 6-3 6-4 victory.

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic now stands between the 37-year-old Federer, the oldest finalist here since Ken Rosewall in 1974, and a record-equalling ninth Wimbledon title in Sunday's showpiece

BREAK POINT SAVED!

A Federer approach and smash; the classic one-two.

Nadal 6-7(3) 1-0 Federer* (ad Nadal)

Outstanding from Nadal. The whipping forehands, and Federer eventually nets with Rafa approaching the net.

SECOND BREAK POINT FOR NADAL...

Nadal 6-7(3) 1-0 Federer* (40-40)

SECOND BREAK POINT SAVED!

Again, Federer backs himself at the net, and swipes home a backhand volley.

Clutch.

Nadal 6-7(3) 1-0 Federer* (40-40)

Long old game now.

Federer has game point, but nets a backhand from out wide.

Fourth deuce of the game.

FEDERER HOLDS!

A big hold, as Nadal mishits a Federer 1st serve.

He goes to change his racket, probably to take a bit of a break as much as anything else.

*Nadal 6-7(3) 1-1 Federer (15-40)

Another stunning point, with a Federer drop shot chased down by Rafa, but he goes crosscourt and it lands wide!

TWO BREAK POINTS FOR FEDERER...

Kieran Jackson12 July 2019 17:51

*Nadal 6-7(3) 1-1 Federer (40-40)

TWO BREAK POINTS SAVED!

Nadal hits a forehand winner, and then Federer nets a return. Opportunity missed?

Kieran Jackson12 July 2019 17:53

Nadal 6-7(3) 2-1 Federer*

Federer nets a backhand, and a Nadal ace clinches the game!

A big hold each. These are the tight, dramatic games we came to see!
