From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Eddie Jones and England are one game away from finishing 2016 with a 100 per cent winning record, with Australia the only side standing between them and perfection.

The war of words between the two coaches has rumbled on all week, with Michael Cheika criticising prop Dan Cole’s scrummaging technique and claiming Jones is looking for a chip on his shoulder.

England whitewashed the Wallabies Down Under during the summer, winning 3-0, and Cheika’s side will be looking for revenge at Twickenham.

  • England XV: Brown, Yarde, Joseph, Farrell, May, Ford, Youngs, Vunipola, Hartley, Cole, Lawes, Kruis, Robshaw, Wood, Hughes.
  • Australia XV: Folau, Haylett-Petty, Kuridrani, Hodge, Naivalu, Foley, Phipps, Sio, Moore, Kepu, Douglas, Simmons, Pocock, M Hooper, L Timani.

Eddie Jones speaking before the game this week:

"Michael's upset so he's got his machine gun out, he's firing away at different sorts of people. We've just focussed on our preparation, getting on with it.

"To beat Australia we've got to break them mentally and physically. We know they're going to come out in the first 20 minutes like there's no tomorrow."

And here's what Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has had to say:

"He has always operated with a chip on his shoulder and now there isn't a chip and things are going well he's got to keep looking for one.

"He is very respected in Australia, I don't know where that comes from, the disrespect."

And here's what Cheika said about prop Dan Cole:

"He wants to talk about our scrum because we're cheating in the scrum - an important thing to note is he's got to look at his own players.

"They are the ones who have a prop with a yellow card.

"That same prop's been infringing the law since his career started probably, if not all of this year.

"The guy (Cole) has been boring in and falling down all of June, that's his tactic."

Time for the anthems

Jack Austin3 December 2016 14:26

Wow, that was loud. Two minutes to kick off. Can England make it a perfect year? We're about to find out!

1 min: Foley to kick off on the same pitch where he dumped England out of their own World Cup around 13 months ago. Here we go!

Jack Austin3 December 2016 14:30

2 mins: Foley with the chance to give Australia an early lead here with a penalty straight in front of the posts... And he misses! Dreadful effort!

Jack Austin3 December 2016 14:33

4 mins: Mike Brown turns the ball over and Joseph nearly gets it but it's grubbered straight back down the line and Farrell dawdles on it. And Australia touch it down! Is it a try? We've gone to the TMO...
