What is the Grand National 2023 and when is it?

Corach Rambler won the 2023 Grand National at Aintree backing up its status as the 8/1 favourite.

Mister Coffey and Coko Beach led early on and throughout most of the thrilling race. But chaotic scenes early on saw a number of fallers, including Lifetime Ambition, who was taken out by a loose horse at fence 9.

However, Corach Rambler, ridden by Derek Fox and trained by Lucinda Russell took the lead from Mister Coffey over the final fence and kicked for home to record a memorable win.

The race had been delayed after protestors breached the Aintree racecourse fence and got on to the course. The Grand National attracted criticism from animal rights protestors in the build-up, with three arrests made in connection with potential co-ordinated disruption activities at Aintree, which became nine following the pre-race disruption

Grand National 2023: West Balboa wins the Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle

Winning jockey Harry Skelton, speaking to ITV Racing: “She has a lot in hand, good mare, good training. Hasn’t run for 90 days - she has won two big handicaps this year but that is down to the training.

“Dan leads, the team, he is a great leader but we have good people around us - good owners who have been patient and they have been rewarded.

“Unbelievable. Cheltenham is the Olympics but there is no place like this. Liverpool is unbelievable, the people of Liverpool make it all special. We will witness the greatest race there is later on and look at all the people here.”

Grand National 2023: Rachael Blackmore on Ain’t That A Shame’s chances in the National

More from jockey Rachael Blackmore who spoke to Betfair about her chances in the Grand National later on when she’ll be riding Ain’t That A Shame.

“Ain’t That A Shame has a lovely profile for the race. He was unlucky to be just beaten in the Munster National at Limerick in October, and it wasn’t my best day in the saddle when I finished fourth on him in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.

“But he won nicely at Gowran the last day, and it was no harm that the runner-up came out and won at Fairyhouse there at the weekend. You don’t really know how a horse will handle the track or the fences until you get out there, but he had a pop over the National fences at The Curragh, and he went well.

“I’d be confident that he will take to the fences fine.He travels well through his races, which is a big help. You’re just hoping that you can get into a nice position and find a nice racing rhythm over the first few fences. I am hopeful that he can.

“After that, you never know, it’s the Grand National, but he has his chance and I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Eight hurdles to go and it’s still Outlaw Peter at the front but he’s setting a nice pace for the field to keep close to him.

Au Fleuron is now up to third. West Balbao and Good Time Jonny are easing their way through the field but they’re all bunched up and anyone can take this yet.
