From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. New Zealand are into the World Cup final after a thrilling win over India.

The Kiwis posted 239 following Tuesday's rain delay and looked destined to cruise home when they removed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli with the new ball. But a brilliant fightback from Ravi Jadeja and MS Dhoni saw India roar back into it before Trent Boult's saw off Jadeja before Dhoni was run out in dramatic fashion at the death.

New Zealand will now face either England or Australia in Sunday's showpiece.

Tom Latham finally arrives.

45.0 - New Zealand 202-5, Tom Latham 1, R Taylor 60, B Kumar 1-28 (8)

I'm slightly surprised New Zealand didn't send out Mitchell Santner ahead of Latham, but Latham it is.

Bumrah.

46.0 - New Zealand 209-5, T Latham 3, R Taylor 65, J Bumrah 1-25 (8)

Crikey - what are you doing India? Taylor edges to third man, but New Zealand take three as the ball is zipped past the stumps twice, allowing two overthrows.

That rather ruins a typically excellent Bumrah death over.

46.1 - New Zealand 211-5, T Latham 3, R Taylor 67, B Kumar 1-30 (8.1)

A misfield from Yuzvendra Chahal allows New Zealand two, and the umpires are getting together for a conversation.

A rub of the back of the hand on the grass beside the pitch, and yep, that'll be that for the moment. The rain is just starting to come down a little heavier, and off the players will go.

Right then. A rain delay. We haven't had one of these for a while. We've plenty more time in which to finish this game, and there IS a reserve day, but looking at the forecast we should get this finished comfortably during the rest of the day.

But for now we wait...

So what of the action we have seen so far? Well, it's been India's game to this point, a strong bowling performance to tie down New Zealand throughout the innings, and force the runs to come in dribs and drabs.

Kane Williamson battled his way to another 50 and Ross Taylor followed him to the mark, and Taylor might yet have 3.5 overs more with which he can boost his score. But it has been a real struggle on a pitch on which scoring looks tough, and New Zealand have been largely unable to rotate the strike, consistently finding fielders.

If this pitch follows the trend of the tournament it will remain relatively sticky for the Indian innings, but with their batting lineup they'll feel pretty content chasing anything below 260, you'd feel.

"Steady rain, not too hard," says Rob Key on the Old Trafford outfield. The scanners are apparently saying it might be raining for the next hour-and-a-half...
