The two met at Old Trafford on the reserve day after play was postponed for rain on Tuesday

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Kiwis posted 239 following Tuesday's rain delay and looked destined to cruise home when they removed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli with the new ball. But a brilliant fightback from Ravi Jadeja and MS Dhoni saw India roar back into it before Trent Boult's saw off Jadeja before Dhoni was run out in dramatic fashion at the death.
New Zealand will now face either England or Australia in Sunday's showpiece.

DLS calculations
If New Zealand do not bat again in their innings, India's DLS-adjusted target for 46 overs would be 237, while the 20-over score would be 148.
As we understand it, the rain is getting heavier at Old Trafford, unfortunately.
The live pictures from Manchester look rather grim. We have not yet lost any overs.
This isn't looking particularly good. We haven't seen any live pictures from Old Trafford for a little while but the reports from those at the ground aren't hugely encouraging. Overs start to be lost at 4pm, which is an hour from now.
Well I've now seen some live footage of Old Trafford, and it is darker than dark. Grey cloud, heavy drizzle, empty stands and covers right across the ground - a pretty grim cricketing picture. Trent Boult is watching the rain tumble from a balcony.
Hmm...not good. We have a cut-off time of 8pm tonight and further time can be added by the match referee if he believes the prospects of a result are strong, but while the forecast is better later, the rain is coming down steadily, and there is another band of rain threatening to further dampen proceedings. The broadcasters are taking an hour break with play unlikely to resume at any point in the next 60 minutes, so for now, we wait.
Good news...
Sort of.
The rain has just eased a touch at Old Trafford.
