It will take time for cricket community to accept David Warner and Steve Smith back, says England's Eoin Morgan

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. England's faltering World Cup campaign veered further off track as old rivals Australia booked their place in the semi-finals with a 64-run victory at Lord's.

After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.

With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

Stokes has had a rub from the physio and eaten a banana.

Lyon continues.

27.0 - England 122-4, B Stokes 52, J Buttler 26, N Lyon 0-28 (6)

Pat Cummins has been a busy boy in the outfield today. This one comes to him along the ground and he does well to palm it away from the boundary with his big left mitt, sliding along the moist Lord's outfield.

Five from Lyon's latest.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are hauling England back into the contest at Lord's.

OUT! A BRILLIANT CATCH FROM USMAN KHAWAJA AND BUTTLER IS GONE!

It's a bad way to get out - Buttler has absolutely munched this short ball from Stoinis, middling it at about head height to the right of Khawaja at deep backward square-leg.

Khawaja picks up the flight of the ball early, crucially, and sets off, moving with purpose towards the arc of the ball and plucking it two handed brilliantly as it seems destined for the first row of seating. A really, really good catch, that. It was travelling.

J Buttler c Khawaja b Stoinis 25 (27b 2x4 0x6), England 124-5 (27.2)

Now then. Out strides Chris Woakes, promoted above Moeen Ali with a serious job to do.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 16:46

28.0 - England 125-5, B Stokes 55, C Woakes 0, M Stoinis 1-24 (5)

Stoinis has a habit of finding key wickets. That's put Australia firmly back in the ascendancy.

The air was rather taken out of Lord's as Buttler departed.

Ben Burrows: If Ben Stokes is going to do this he's going to have to do it alone. Jos Buttler will be kicking himself as a hard-fought 71-run partnership comes to an end in the tamest fashion. Chris Woakes now to try and settle things again. It looks a tall order from here.

Glenn Maxwell into the attack, with Aaron Finch perhaps withholding Lyon's overs for Moeen Ali's arrival.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 16:49

29.0 - England 128-5, B Stokes 57, C Woakes 1, Glenn Maxwell 0-3 (1)

Maxwell is a more-than-handy option with the ball nowadays. Just three singles from his first set of six.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 16:51

30.0 - England 129-5, B Stokes 58, C Woakes 1, M Stoinis 1-25 (6)

Another missed run out chance, and it's Smith again!

Extraordinarily similar, Woakes the man this time, no dive but again a number of inches short and grateful for the wayward nature of Smith's chucking.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 16:55

30.1 - England 135-5, B Stokes 64, C Woakes 1, G Maxwell 0-9 (1.1)

TONKED! Deposited over square leg!

A drag down from Maxwell, quick footwork to get into position and a sizeable blow over the short square boundary from Ben Stokes.
