Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England play in the very first game of the tournament and, if all goes will, are planning to feature in the last. Eoin Morgan's side crashed out of the 2015 tournament in the group stage, but have since risen to the top of the ODI rankings and are favourites to lift the trophy at Lord's on Sunday 14 July.
An England-India final is hotly anticipated, but do not count out Australia, New Zealand or West Indies having their say later in the tournament.
South Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka complete the 10 teams that will play each other once in a round-robin tournament taking place around the country.
The top four teams will then begin a knockout stage, consisting of two semi-finals and the final.
The change in format attracted criticism for being too long compared to previous editions, but the six-week competition is expected to light the touchpaper for a thrilling summer of cricket in England, with the Ashes taking place shortly after.
