Ryder Cup 2018 – as it happened: Europe triumph in Sunday singles
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Europe have won the 2018 Ryder Cup after a thrilling afternoon in the Sunday singles. After coming into the final day 10-6 behind, USA upped the pressure with early points on the board with wins for Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson and Tony Finau.
But the Europeans held their nerve as Jon Rahm, Ian Poulter and Thorbjorn Olesen all won their matches, and they sealed the trophy when Francesco Molinari beat Phil Mickelson when the American conceded 16th tee.

Who's going to win?
USA 10/1
Europe 1/6
Draw 14/1
Justin Rose vs Webb Simpson (2UP)
It's back to two in this one and it's Rose's own doing. He can only make bogey at the seventh and it's a simple win for Simpson.
Rory McIlroy vs Justin Thomas (A/S)
We're back on even keel here too. Justin Thomas makes a lovely birdie at ten and McIlroy can't match that. This has been a topsy-turvy duel.
Paul Casey vs Brooks Koepka (A/S)
Casey birdies his way back. Koepka got held up in the rough at the par-5 ninth and he can't make birdie.
Tommy Fleetwood vs Tony Finau (2UP)
What's happened to Tommy Fleetwood? He's missed another simple putt at six and, after fighting his way back, he's two down again.
Jon Rahm (2UP) v Tiger Woods
Rahmbo strikes again. Woods driver betrays him and he can only chip out. He did have a putt for par but he's left it well short. Very strange. Rahm has two putts for it and just cosies it down there to extend his lead.
Ian Poulter (1UP) vs Dustin Johnson
I rub my eyes but the truth remains. Dustin Johnson has holed a long birdie putt. Poulter's closer to the flag but he lips out and that's one pegged back at the fifth.
Justin Rose vs Webb Simpson (3UP)
Justin Rose has literally putted off the green at the eighth. Moments later Simpson, who's playing really well again today, holes his own putt for birdie and it's three. Nobody saw this coming.
Tommy Fleetwood vs Tony Finau (3UP)
Tony Finau is really putting the nail in on Tommy Fleetwood now who must be ruing those missed putts. He's hit a horrible hook of the seventh tee and can't even get out the rough with his second. Finau's second is less than a foot from the hole....
Paul Casey (1UP) vs Brooks Koepka
Great birdie at the tenth and Paul Casey takes the lead on Brooks Koepka.
Rory McIlroy vs Justin Thomas (A/S)
A huge moment in this match. Rory McIlroy thinks he has the twelfth hole won after Justin Thomas misses the green to the left and then duffs his chip into the fringe. McIlroy is in for par but Thomas chips-in to halve the hole and it's a huge swing in momentum.
