From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brazil are the hot favourite this year and are hoping to add a sixth World Cup title to their trophy cabinet.

The South American giants have had an excellent display of form, losing only one game out of 21 and conceded five goals in the process.

Switzerland, on the other hand, are looking to give the Brazilians a challenge, after only losing one out of 17 games since the Euro 2016.

Both squads have a good chance at snatching three points but with the Swiss being the clear underdogs in their group, a draw would be a massive boost for them.

6 mins: Plenty of eyes on Neymar this evening, not least from the Switzerland players. Already the Swiss are surrounding and frustrating him by any means possible. Xhaka lucky to avoid an early yellow

12 mins: Sommer gets fingertips to a Paulinho strike that dribbled across the face of goal after some poor Swiss defending. Alarms bells starting to ring for Switzerland

15 mins: Looks to be a long evening for Valon Behrami, already made a couple of rash challenges on Neymar, and appears to be his on his last chance before going into the book.

Neymar lifts the resulting free kick straight into the wall

20 mins: GOAL! Brazil 1-0 Switzerland (Philippe Coutinho)

It's a stunning finish from Coutinho! He's outside of the penalty box to the left, rifles a right-footed shot at goal and watches it curl majestically into the goal in off the post.

25 mins: That goal seems to have reinvigorated Brazil, but the Swiss haven't let their heads drop. Their corner is defended well this time, but could be a threat for them as the game goes on

29 mins: A couple of delays from a head injury following that corner has seen a quiet passage of play, which if anything, Switzerland have seen the better of

31 mins: Unsurprisingly the first yellow card of the game goes to Switzerland and Stephan Lichtsteiner

Molly Hudson17 June 2018 19:31

36 mins: Switzerland enjoying a prolonged spell of possession, without really getting anywhere. They are lacking that spark that Shaqiri can provide, as his teammates are struggling to get the ball out to him
