Haji Wright sent Coventry into the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley after the USA international’s 100th-minute winner secured a 3-2 win to stun Wolves.

In a thrilling quarter-final, the Sky Blues appeared to have squandered their chance at Molineux, having led 1-0 and dominated for large spells, when the Premier League side came from behind to lead 2-1 late thanks to Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno’s goals.

But Ellis Simms’ second goal of the game in the 97th minute appeared to secure extra-time, but Mark Robbins’ side quickly hit their opponents with another fine goal as Wright’s curler three minutes later sent the Championship side into the final four for the first time since 1987.

Coventry will now look forward to Sunday’s semi-final draw before switching focus back to the Championship and their bid for a play-off place.

GOAL! Wolves 0-1 Coventry

57 mins: After around five minutes of VAR checks, the goal is GIVEN! 1-0 to the away side. It would have been exceptionally harsh to disallow that; apparently the handball evidence was ‘inconclusive’ and so the onfield decision stands.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

This is a lengthy VAR check. It looks like the ball has come off Wright’s foot, onto Simms’ stomach/chest and then onto his arm. It definitely hits the arm but, if the shirt cuff is the cut-off point for handball, this is a very difficult decision to make. Worth noting that the onfield decision was a goal.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

GOAL! 51 mins: A nice interchange in the Coventry midfield ends with Simms being fouled midway into the Wolves half. Palmer delivers the free-kick to the back post, and Kitching heads it across goal. Wight is coming in and he gets a foot to it but can only hit it on to Ellis Simms , who bundles it in.

There’s a VAR check as it looks like the ball could have come off Simms’ arm.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

50 mins: Wright has the first Coventry chance, but his shot from just outside the area soars over the bar.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

48 mins: Ait-Nouri with the first chance goof the half. He skips past a challenge near halfway and surges towards the box. He shoots just outside of the area, but it’s wild and goes wide.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

46 mins: Wolves have the first free-kick of the second half as Sarabia is fouled near halfway.

It’s sent long and headed down, and Ait-Nouri gets onto it, but its runs out of play.

KICK-OFF! Wolves 0-0 Coventry

KICK-OFF! The away side get us underway in the second half. Remember, this game needs to be settled today, so someone needs a goal if we want t avoid extra-time.

HALF-TIME: Wolves 0-0 Coventry

A frantic first-half and a good performance from the away side.

Coventry have just edged it on balance, and will be the happier of the two teams.

Wolves remain a threat, however. They won’t necessarily be disappointed with that half, but they’ll be wary of the Coventry threat.
