Haji Wright sent Coventry into the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley after the USA international’s 100th-minute winner secured a 3-2 win to stun Wolves.

In a thrilling quarter-final, the Sky Blues appeared to have squandered their chance at Molineux, having led 1-0 and dominated for large spells, when the Premier League side came from behind to lead 2-1 late thanks to Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno’s goals.

But Ellis Simms’ second goal of the game in the 97th minute appeared to secure extra-time, but Mark Robbins’ side quickly hit their opponents with another fine goal as Wright’s curler three minutes later sent the Championship side into the final four for the first time since 1987.

Coventry will now look forward to Sunday’s semi-final draw before switching focus back to the Championship and their bid for a play-off place.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry

3 mins: Wolves have started off as the more positive of the two sides in the opening stages. No chances yet, but Wolves look like they might be trying to build-up down the left-hand side when they get the opportunity.

KICK-OFF! Wolves 0-0 Coventry

KICK-OFF!

Apparently Coventry were the last West Midlands team to win the FA Cup, back in 1987. This is a huge chance to go one step closer to repeating that for a club which has had some heartbreak in recent years – they were beaten in the Championship play-off final last season.

The home side get us underway.

Matt Doherty is the only Wolves player still at the club who featured in their last FA Cup semi-final appearance in 2019.

He says Wolves should be the favourites against Coventry as they look to return to Wembley for the first time since losing to Watford five years ago.

“I managed to get into a semi-final a few years ago with Wolves, and we should have won, so I really want to get back there this year,” the right back said.

“Our run hasn’t been filled with ‘huge’ games against United and all the other teams, but that’s the whole point of the cup competitions, you play a variety of teams from different leagues.

“Obviously, we’ll be favourites against Coventry, and we are at home. We’re not going to take anybody lightly, but we’re pretty confident.”

Wolves vs Coventry LIVE: Latest FA Cup quarter-final updates

Gary O’Neil on the FA Cup quarter-final: "I didn't really think about the cup competitions, it was a bit of a transition in the football club, maybe tough, maybe a relegation scrap. To arrive here and beyond 41 points, it's unbelievable, the lads deserve it. Local derby at West Brom, Brighton came here, we've had a tough draw, now Coventry, another one, to get to Wembley.

"Last week I was proud, what we suffered before the game, handed a massive advantage to Fulham, to come out on top was a proud moment. Today we need to go again. No excuses. Everybody is missing players. Excited to see the young lads. Hopefully they can play a big part in a big day for the football club.

“I’m not thinking about Europe. We were fortunate or very good managing the injuries, but now we’ve suffered a few. Let’s see where we can go.”

“To try and get a place at Wembley is a real big carrot. We want to try and get a first semi-final in however long,” he said.

“We know it is a tough, tough ask, even though they have a lot of injuries. We are just hoping we can play well enough to get a good result for ourselves and progress through.

“They will feel they should get through. You never know, upsets can happen. We are looking forward to the game, it will give us the chance to play against Premier League opponents.

“There is all that there for the players. It is going to be a brilliant occasion, we know the magnitude of the task but we are going to go there and give it our all.”
