Tottenham kept themselves in the top-four race with a 5-0 hammering of Everton, who are in grave relegation danger after a gutless showing in north London. Spurs have been inconsistent in recent weeks but showed their best as, after Michael Keane’s own goal put them ahead early on, they ran riot, with Harry Kane scoring twice and Son Heung-min and Sergio Reguilon also netting.

It was another Kane masterclass, with his second goal a particular highlight, and he took his tally to 14 goals in 15 games against Everton. This was as bad a performance as the Toffees have put in this season and there has been no bounce under Frank Lampard, with a fourth loss in five league games since he took over. There is little doubt that they are involved in a relegation dogfight as they are just a point above 18th-placed Burnley, though they do have a game in hand.

Spurs equalled their best ever Premier League win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will now have real belief that they can gate-crash the Champions League qualification places. Follow the reaction and analysis after Spurs thrash Everton in the Premier League:

Tottenham vs Everton: Frank Lampard fears for Ashley Cole as Everton prepare for Tottenham trip

Everton manager Frank Lampard does not expect a friendly welcome from Tottenham’s fans as a former Chelsea player – but he believes it will be worse for assistant coach Ashley Cole.

Rivalries will be renewed on Monday night when Lampard and former Arsenal defender Cole arrive in north London.

It is nothing Lampard cannot cope with, however.

“I don’t expect a good reception – but speaking to Ashley Cole he expects a worse reception than me!” he said.

Tottenham vs Everton

Everton’s 14 Premier League defeats this season is already one more than their final tally for last season. The Toffees have lost as many as 14 of their opening 24 matches of a league campaign for the first time this year.

All four of Tottenham’s league wins in 2022 have come away. Spurs have lost both of their league home fixtures in this calendar year.

They last lost three league games in a row at home between May and September 2008.

Tottenham vs Everton: Conte on inconsistency

Antonio Conte says that Spurs cannot hope to win trophies until they figure out a way to put in good performances on a consistent basis. The fluctuating nature of Spurs’ recent results has seen them knocked out of the FA Cup and fall six points behind London rivals, Arsenal, in the league. Conte said:

To be competitive and to try to win something, to try to fight for something important and to become a strong team, the first thing that has to happen is to be stable and to avoid these ups and downs.

“To do this and to change these types of situations in a short time is impossible. Not only for me but for every coach.

“Especially to change the story of this club for 20 years. For sure sometimes you have to be upset. Sometimes, it’s normal to be angry.”

Tottenham vs Everton: Antonio Conte insists no manager can deliver a quick fix at Tottenham

Antonio Conte says no manager in the world would be able to deliver a quick fix at Tottenham, who have been stuck in a rut for 20 years.

The Italian, who was appointed in November, has undertaken a massive rebuild project, with the squad needing major surgery if they are going to get back to the top table of English football.

One of their biggest problems has been stark inconsistencies in both results and performances, highlighted by the fact they won at Manchester City in the Premier League but then lost at Burnley and Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

Tottenham vs Everton: Head-to-head

Tottenham have only won one of their last seven matches against Everton in all competitions. However, Everton’s solitary victory in the last 18 Premier League meetings came away in September 2020.

The Toffees are aiming to win consecutive Premier League away games against Spurs for the second time, after a run of three at White Hart Lane from 2006 to 2008.

Tottenham vs Everton: Team changes

Antonio Conte makes just one change to the Tottenham team that lost to Middlesbrough last time out as Rodrigo Bentancur comes in to replace Harry Winks.

Frank Lampard on the other hand makes a whole heap of changes. Jordan Pickford returns in goal with Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate returning to the back line to join Jonjoe Kenny and Michael Keane. In midfield Donny van de Beek starts ahead of Vitaliy Mykolenko and up top Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin slot in alongside Anthony Gordon.

Tottenham vs Everton: Dele Alli returns to Spurs

Dele Alli makes his return to Tottenham tonight, a month after leaving for Everton in a bid to revive his career.

The 25-year-old scored 67 goals in 269 apppearances for Tottenham, but has only netted one league goal (a penalty) since March 2020.

Since his move to Goodison Park, Dele has only made four substitute appearances and is yet to score but you wouldn’t put it past him to net his first goal for Everton against his old club would you?
