From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Newcastle United host Arsenal in the 1330 BST kick-off at St James’ Park with both sides on the fringes of their respective Premier League battles.

For the Gunners, the top four is now out of sight and they are content with chasing Chelsea in fifth above them while holding off the charge of Burnley from below.

Newcastle meanwhile are sitting pretty above the relegation scrap, seemingly safe on 38 points, and can now target a top-half finish which would be an impressive achievement from a squad which many experts tipped to struggle this season.

Manchester United 0-0 West Brom

Tuts and murmurs from the home fans at the break.

Jake Livermore could have given the visitors and unlikely lead but David De Gea was up to his old tricks and produced a great save to deny West Brom a opening goal.

At the other end, United's attack has been lethargic and laboured; passes are too slow, players are taking too many touches and are holding back with forward runs. Romelu Lukaku has come closest to scoring but was denied by Ben Foster after being slipped in behind the defence.

Jose Mourinho has Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial on the bench and it would be very surprising to see the home side return to the pitch without at least one of those players coming on.

Nemanja Vidic gives his view on Manchester United's penalty shout on Sky Sports.

"I think it was a penalty. I think the reaction of Ander Herrera puts the referee in doubt."

47: Jesse Lingard almost scores straight away. The ball breaks to Lingard in the box and the winger strikes a half-volley which is destined to go in, but Criag Dawson flies in and blocks his effort.

48: Another James McClean cross is met by Salamon Rondon who heads towards goal but David De Gea catches his effort without fuss.

50: Manchester United are in a promising position but Paul Pogba tries an necessarily complicated pass and loses possession. You could copy that and paste it into any United commentary this season.

53: Juan Mata collects the ball on the edge of the box and tries to score but his shot sails around ten yards wide.

54: Paul Pogba concedes a foul on the corner of the box. Chris Brunt opts to shoot but the wall does it job and the good territory comes to nothing.

56: Ashley Young cuts onto his right foot, shock, and curls a ball towards Juan Mata but Ben Foster reads the situation and collects the ball on the penalty spot.
