For the Gunners, the top four is now out of sight and they are content with chasing Chelsea in fifth above them while holding off the charge of Burnley from below.
Newcastle meanwhile are sitting pretty above the relegation scrap, seemingly safe on 38 points, and can now target a top-half finish which would be an impressive achievement from a squad which many experts tipped to struggle this season.

17: Manchester United have struggled to move the ball quickly, how many times have we said that this season? This is allowing West Brom to steal the ball quickly and break forward with the home side committing players high up the pitch.
20: Surely that should be a penalty for Manchester United!
Ander Herrera is making his way through challenges in the box and Craig Dawson rushes in and brings the player down. Replays show his foot caught Herrera's ankle, but the referee appeared to have his vision blocked.
United get the ball forward again and Juan Mata slips the ball to Romelu Lukaku who can't divert the bouncing ball beyond Ben Foster who rushed out.
David De Gea, who has just been nominated in the PFA Player of the Year awards, denies Jake Livermore to keep the score 0-0.
25: James McClean's deep cross is met by Salamon Rondon who heads towards goal but David De Gea saves with ease.
28: Alexis Sanchez produces a searching cross into the middle. Attacking the ball is Paul Pogba who can't get his head to it so opts to use his hands to try and turn it in, but is caught red handed - literally.
35: A long spell of passing results in Ander Herrera helping Paul Pogba's through pass to Romelu Lukaku. The forward touches the ball on the edge of the area but his control is poor and nothing comes of the chance.
37: Paul Pogba tries to catch Ben Foster off his line but curls an effort well over. The tv cameras pan to Jose Mourinho who remains emotionless in his dugout, I doubt he'll be best pleased with this start, United have to move the ball faster.
41: West Brom win the first corner of the match and Chris Brunt's delivery is met by Craig Dawson who heads the ball back across goal into a dangerous area, but nobody is there to turn it in and Manchester United clear.
