For the Gunners, the top four is now out of sight and they are content with chasing Chelsea in fifth above them while holding off the charge of Burnley from below.
Newcastle meanwhile are sitting pretty above the relegation scrap, seemingly safe on 38 points, and can now target a top-half finish which would be an impressive achievement from a squad which many experts tipped to struggle this season.

75: Crossbar!
Islam Slimani links up really well with Kennedy and the latter is played clear on the left side. The winger drives at goal and gets a shot away but Shkodran Mustafi recovers well to divert the effort onto the crossbar.
15 to go
Just 15 minutes for Newcastle to hold onto their slim advantage and secure Premier League football for next year. Don't go anywhere.
77: Islam Slimani has done really well since coming on and sets up a chance for Ayoze Perez in the middle but is marshaled by Nacho Monreal and can't get a shot away.
78: That's Ayoze Perez's last involvement and he makes way for Joselu. Arsenal also bring on Ainsley Maitland-Niles for Callum Chambers as they chase a comeback.
83: Newcastle clear a corner to Mohamed Elneny who is 40 yards from goal and decides a shot is the best course of action. He was wrong. The midfielder fires and effort well over and Newcastle regroup.
85: Almost for Arsenal.
Martin Dubravka comes to meet the ball in the air but tangles with Alexandre Lacazette and the forward steals the ball. Lacazette turns, ignores Danny Welbeck in the middle, and fires a low shot into the side netting. Very much, the wrong decision and Welbeck was less than impressed.
86: Jacob Murphy comes on for Matt Ritchie, who put Newcastle in front, and Arsenal bring on Eddie Nketiah for Alex Iwobi.
89: St James Park rises as Mohamed Diame shepherd the ball out for a goal kick. "We are staying up" is the chant from the home end, they have one minute and added time to hold on.
