From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

They take on a Leicester side who have rediscovered their form under Claude Puel but, if last week's humiliation against Crystal Palace is anything to go by, remain defensively vulnerable. Stick around for the live action as it happens!
53' - Huge chances at both ends of the pitch!
Leicester have the first one as Riyad Mahrez's low cross is met by the unmarked Christian Fuchs at the far post, only for Victor Lindelof to produce a magnificent block just yards from the goal-line.
Just moments later United break with Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku before the latter finds Anthony Martial in the penalty area with a piercing pass. The Frenchman's first touch is good but, with only Kasper Schmeichel to beat, he sends his shot over the crossbar.
57' - Daniel Amartey replaces the injured Danny Simpson for Leicester.
GOAL! Leicester 1-2 Manchester United (Mata, 60)
Stunning.
Anthony Martial is body-checked on the edge of the penalty area and referee Jon Moss awards the free-kick. Juan Mata takes it and bends a delicious shot over the wall and beyond Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal. Great strike!
Juan Mata curls a sumptuous free-kick beyond Kasper Schmeichel to give United the lead
68' - Kasper Schmeichel gets lucky as his clearance cannons off the onrushing Romelu Lukaku and away from the danger area. That could've been so much worse for the Leicester goalkeeper.
