Middlesbrough vs Tottenham LIVE: FA Cup fifth round result, final score and reaction tonight

15 mins: Dael Fry, Harry Kane and Anfernee Dijksteel all leap at the same aerial ball as it drops into the Middlesbrough half. Fry and Dijksteel clash heads with the centre-back staying down after the collision. The physios come on to give him a check over and it looks like he’ll be able to play on.

12 mins: Tottenham are slowly taking control of the game as they maintain possession and look to play Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski into little pockets of space. An aerial ball comes down the left side for Son but he’s matched stride-for-stride by Dijksteel and the Middlesbrough defender holds him off long enough for Joe Lumley to fly out for his area and boot the ball back down the pitch.

9 mins: Peterborough vs Manchester City has reached half-time with the game goalless and there hasn’t been a goal in the match between Crystal Palace and Stoke either.

Back at the Riverside Ryan Sessegnon goes on a driving run up the inside left channel. He shrugs off Anfernee Dijksteel on his way into the area before squaring a pass over towards Harry Kane. Dael Fry squeezes in front of the Tottenham forward though and works the ball clear.

6 mins: Middlesbrough send the ball out to Marcus Tavernier on the left wing and he whips a teasing cross into the Tottenham box but can’t pick out a teammate and Spurs nod the ball clear

The home side have started confidently, they’re passing the ball around nicely and aren’t afraid to get stuck in in midfield.

3 mins: Tottenham win an early corner that Son Heung-min slots short to Harry Winks. He curls a cross into the box from a more favourable angle and looks to pick out Harry Kane but Middlesbrough managed to work it away from the near post.

Kick off: Dejan Kulusevski gets the match started at the Riverside stadium. Middlesbrough press up the pitch and force the ball loose on their right wing before recovering possession in midfield. Good start from the home side.

As a manager Antonio Conte has only lost one of his 11 domestic cup matches against lower ranked opposition with eight wins and two draws.

That defeat came when Conte was in charge of Atalanta in 2009 when they lost 1-0 to Lumezzane in the Coppa Italia fourth round.

Tottenham haven’t made it past the fifth round of the FA Cup since the 2017-18 season but they have reached the last four in each of the last four seasons they have done so.

Spurs have been knocked out at this stage in each of the last two seasons; versus Norwich in 2019-20 and against Everton last year.

Antonio Conte gave his thoughts to BBC Sport before kick off saying that his team are ready for tonight’s match and have the sights set of winning the competition this year. He said:

Including replays Tottenham have never lost to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. They’ve won four and drawn two of the six games played between the teams.

Those two draws for Spurs came away from home in February 1905 and January 2020.
