From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Follow all the action as Southampton host Chelsea in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

After such a fantastic first half of the season, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side now find themselves trapped in a desperate slump, losing all of their last six league games in succession, including a harrowing 9-0 defeat by Manchester United. The Saints briefly topped the table at one stage but have now dropped down to 13th, with their hopes of securing European football now all but extinguished.

However, Chelsea’s fortunes have improved markedly since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, even if a title charge is already beyond the Blues. The club have won five out of six games in all competitions since Frank Lampard was sacked and currently sit fourth, just four points adrift of second-placed Manchester United. There was relief for Timo Werner, too, in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle last time out, with the forward finally bringing his torrid goal drought to an end. Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz have both returned to full training ahead of the fixture, but Tuchel will already have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid and may choose to rotate his starting line-up. BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (40’)

Burnley’s stodgy, unimaginative buildup play continues. West Brom, set in a 4-4-1 shape, defend comfortably for now.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (38’)

Gallagher drives forward and finds Maitland-Niles, who does well to win a corner on the left. The set piece is whipped in and headed away by Brownhill.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (34’)

Burnley need to be far better in the final third. They’ve not really looked like scoring but with an extra man there’ll be pressure on the hosts to take the game away from their struggling opposition.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (32’)

West Brom make a change: O’Shea replaces Phillips to fill the void left at the back following Ajayi’s dismissal.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (31’)

Red card! Ajayi is sent off. He was close to the halfway line, so a long way from goal, but Vydra would have been clean through had the West Brom defender not used his arm.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (30’)

Mike Dean goes over to the monitor. This can only go well...

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (29’)

There’s a VAR check for a possible red card. Ajayi appeared to handle the ball and prevent a potential one on one for Vydra.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (28’)

Gallagher leaves the free kick for Pereira, who slams a shot against the wall.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (27’)

Brownhill goes in late on Maitland-Niles and concedes a free kick, right on the edge of the Burnley area. Gallagher stands over it...

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (24’)

The West Brom corner comes to nothing, but it’s been a fairly encouraging start for the visitors. Burnley do create half a chance at the other end, though, as Brownhill heads over the bar from the near post, with Rodriguez lurking behind him.
