From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Follow all the action as Southampton host Chelsea in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

After such a fantastic first half of the season, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side now find themselves trapped in a desperate slump, losing all of their last six league games in succession, including a harrowing 9-0 defeat by Manchester United. The Saints briefly topped the table at one stage but have now dropped down to 13th, with their hopes of securing European football now all but extinguished.

However, Chelsea’s fortunes have improved markedly since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, even if a title charge is already beyond the Blues. The club have won five out of six games in all competitions since Frank Lampard was sacked and currently sit fourth, just four points adrift of second-placed Manchester United. There was relief for Timo Werner, too, in a 2-0 victory against Newcastle last time out, with the forward finally bringing his torrid goal drought to an end. Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz have both returned to full training ahead of the fixture, but Tuchel will already have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid and may choose to rotate his starting line-up. BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (54’)

A dreadful free kick from Burnley as the ball is played short towards Lowton but runs out for a throw-in. Dyche frowns on the touchline.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (53’)

Some hopeful appeals for a penalty from Burnley as the ball appears to hit Bartley on the arm in the box. There’s a VAR check, but the decision remains no penalty.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (50’)

Burnley work the ball out to McNeil, whose cross is flicked towards goal by Brownhill. It doesn’t drop for any of his teammates in the box.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (47’)

McNeil curls a cross into the path of Vydra but Johnstone is out quickly to gather. Burnley need to significantly up the tempo in this half.

HALF-TIME: BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM

Mike Dean brings a turgid first-half to a close. It’s been low quality, particularly from Burnley, who will have expected better given their recent upturn in form. West Brom will probably be a little happier with their performance, but they’re down to ten men after Ajayi’s red card for a handball that denied Vydra a potential scoring opportunity.

There’ll be two added minutes.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (45’)

Pereira floats a free kick into the Burnley box but Bartley can’t climb high enough to meet the ball.

BURNLEY 0-0 WEST BROM (44’)

Westwood looks to slide a pass through to Brownhill but gets it wrong, sending it trickling behind for a goal kick. It’s not good from the home team.
