Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Tottenham Hotspur could be eliminated from this season’s Champions League at the group stage if they fail to win against Monaco.

41 min: Corner for Monaco. Lemar picks out Jemerson at the far post with his delivery from the right but the defender was positioned in too awkward an ankle to keep his headed effort down and on target.

45 min: Spurs are struggling to get out their own half as Monaco continue to press high, pressurising the side's full-backs while suffocating the midfielders. After yet another failed opportunity to break free of their own half, the ref finally blows his whistle to bring the opening 45 minutes to an end.

HALF TIME: AS Monaco 0-0 Tottenham

A woeful first-half performance from the visitors. Spurs have lacked composure and fluency going forward, while their defence has looked ragged at best. Dier and Wimmer have struggled to form any sort of partnership, looking nervy and disorganised. Monaco, in contrast, have been dominant. Silva has been pulling the strings for the home side, picking out space, creating chances and proving a general menace to Spurs. Pochettino's players are lucky to be in this.

45 min: That's the whistle! The second half is underway!

47 min: The second-half starts in a similar fashion as the first one did: scrappy and hectic. Neither team have been able to grab a hold of the run of play with the ball constantly switching possession.

GOAL! Monaco 1-0 Tottenham (Djibril Sidibé, 49 min)

Monaco take the lead through a brilliant, well-deserved goal. Mendy bombed down the left flank to the baseline where he cut back on himself to take the ball past Kieran Trippier. Position on the edge of the box, he picked out the unmarked Sidibe who from six yards out nodded the ball past Lloris. One from full-back to another. Cracking stuff.
