From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

14 min: Another chance for Monaco. It's one-way traffic at the moment as Lemar surges forward down the left flank before firing in a cross to the far post. Unmarked and in acres of space, Valere Germain rose to meet the delivery but struggled to make anything of it as his headed attempt landed firmly in Lloris' hands.
18 min: Spurs are starting to settle down now as Wimmer pings a cross-field switch to Trippier out on the right. It's subsequently worked inwards before finding its way to Dele Alli who drives forward to the Monaco box with menace. He's hacked down, winning a free-kick, but the visitors make little of it as the midfielder's delivery drifts high above the box full of bodies into Subasic.
21 min: Dembele gets caught in a pickle as he's surrounded by at least three Monaco players who eventually succeed in dispossessing him, despite his best efforts to shrug them off. With the ball gone, he ends up lashing out on Silva as he seeks to recover the ball but is slapped with a yellow card instead for bringing the player down.
23 min: Alli picks out Kane ahead of him with an incisive pass that sets up the striker for a chance on goal. He winds up to take a shot from inside the Monaco box but the flag goes up for offside.
26 min: Germain gets slotted through down the right flank to find himself faced with an empty box. He starts to cut inward but Dier is back in time to deny the Monaco man a shot on goal. He looks to dink it over the Englishman instead but his effort bounces off Dier and Wimmer pounces to clear the danger.
28 min: Fabinho with the shot from inside the Tottenham box. With a sweeping right foot, he sought to curl the ball into the top-left corner but his effort whistled past the post and out for a goal kick.
31 min: Lemar pumps it in from the left-hand side corner spot but it goes no further than Son Heung-Min at the front post who rises to nod the ball away.
35 min: Chance for Spurs. Alli sets up Son inside the Monaco box on the left with a neat, well-timed reverse pass. From the baseline he cuts it back to pick out the incoming Rose but struggles to find him, allowing the opposition defence to snatch back possession. They immediately counter as a long ball is pumped over the top to release Falcao who, from outside the Spurs penalty area, fires a low driven shot across goal. It zips from right to left but just skims Lloris' outside goal post to go out for a goal kick.
38 min: Kane with the chance this time. A ball from the left landed favourably for Kane after bouncing its way through the Monaco box with some look. Positioned to the right of the goal, the forward snapped at the ball with a swinging effort but failed to make connection.
