From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. After the pain of their 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea on Sunday, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City were unable to find a nerve-settling win over Celtic at the Etihad Stadium.

City had already guaranteed a place in the last-16 but the side couldn't improve on second place with Barcelona topping Group C.

Guardiola was looking for a strong response from his side after the weekend's defeat and a convincing victory over the Hoops but he didn't get the confidence booster he was hoping for.

As for Celtic, Brendan Rodgers' side finished bottom and, as a result, head out of Europe without the chance to feature in the Europa League.

Tuesday's Champions League results

Basel 1 Arsenal 4

PSG 2 Ludo Razgd 2

Benfica 1 Napoli 2

Dynamo Kiev 6 Besiktas 0

Barcelona 4 B Gladbach 0

Manchester City 1 Celtic 1

Bayern Mun 1 Atl Madrid 0

PSV Eindhoven 0 FC Rostov 0

So far the entertainment at the Etihad has been as close to the reverse fixture at Celtic Park as possible. Celtic look like they're really going for it and believe they can win this. City look dangerous on the attack too, but the less said about their defence, the better.

45 mins: And we're back underway at the Etihad! We only had to wait four minutes for a goal in the first half, how long this time?

Jack Austin6 December 2016 20:48

GOAL! Basel 0 Arsenal 3 (Perez)

Perez has his hat-trick! He had never scored a European goal for Arsenal before tonight!

Incidentally, it's also three assists for Gibbs!

50 mins: Forrest hobbles off and is replaced by Mackay-Steven. Pity, Forrest looked bright in the first half.

Jack Austin6 December 2016 20:53

53 mins: Sane goes on a dangerous looking run and the ball breaks to Gundogan who scoops a lovely pass over the defence to Nolito, but the Spaniard just just offside!

GOAL! Basel 0 Arsenal 4 (Iwobi)

Iwobi side-foots how Ozil's pass from close range as Perez decides to give someone else a go at scoring. The Gunners are running riot!

Jack Austin6 December 2016 20:57

58 mins: Nervous moment for Caballero there, he's in no man's land at the corner but Celtic can't capitalise.

Jack Austin6 December 2016 21:02

61 mins: Maffeo is replaced by Navas after another decent performance. Clichy has been dreadful on the other side though and has been given the run around by Celtic's right flank!

Jack Austin6 December 2016 21:04

Bad news for Arsenal, Cavani has just leveled things in Paris against Ludogorets. Arsenal still top as it stands but one more PSG goal will do it!

Jack Austin6 December 2016 21:05

66 mins: No goal! Blistering counter attack from City leads to Navas firing in a row cross from the right which misses Iheanacho but Nolito is on hand to turn it home. The flag is raised though, and correctly so.
