HALF TIME: Borussia M'Gladbach 1-1 Manchester City

Up until Silva's late goal, City had struggled to break down the Germans' defence with chances coming few and far in between. Borussia have looked the better team, exploiting the gaping holes on either side of the City back three. Unsurprisingly, the majority of their play has therefore come down the flanks and this where is they've looked most dangerous. Nonetheless, courtesy of the captain's goal, City now head into half-time with momentum in their favour. Bring on the second half.

45 min: The whistle blows for the second half, here we go!

47 min: Gundogan makes a right hash of what should have been a straight-forward cross from the left. His delivery soars high above the box and into the stand behind much to the delight of the home fans.

49 min: City with the free-kick from the right. It's a phenomenal delivery from De Bruyne as the ball swings from right to left to make its way to the far post. John Stones barges through the box and leaps highest to get his head to it but the flag goes up for a foul.

50 min: Disallowed goal for City! Inside Borussia's penalty area, De Bruyne drew in the Germans' two centre-backs before poking through a pass to Sterling in space on the left. With Sommer at the near post, he simply tapped the ball into an open goal and wheeled away in celebration but the flag had already been raised for the offside position. A step in the right direction nonetheless.

52 min: More drama as Borussia Monchengladbach captain Lars Stindl is sent off! A second yellow for blocking off Nicolas Otamendi with a raised arm. A needless challenge that could prove costly. City now have the best part of 40 minutes with a man over.

56 min: The dynamics of the game have taken quite the change. Nearly all 10 of City's out-field players are camped out inside Borussia's own half as the visitors work the ball down the two flanks and work play back and forth across the pitch in search of a way through. There's only so long the home side will be able to hold off this sort of pressure. Their backs are well and truly up against the wall.
