From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Beauty advent calendars that count down to Christmas have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, with Jo Malone and Liberty London among the big names that cause quite a stir each year.

But now, one brand is out to prove that these special boxes, which contain an assortment of luxury skincare, must-have make-up and perfumes tucked behind a series of doors, aren’t the sole reserve of the festive season.

Huda and Mona Kattan, the founders of cult beauty brand Huda Beauty, have launched a new 10-piece beauty calendar to celebrate Ramadan.

Called the 1001 nights Ramadan gifting calendar, the Kattan sisters said they created the set after struggling with dry and dull skin during the period of fasting, which this year begins in the evening of Monday 12 April and will end on Tuesday 11 May.

“Personally, fasting really takes its toll on my skin, especially since I live in such a hot climate, which means my skin gets easily dehydrated,” says Huda. “So, I wanted to put together a kit for you guys that would give you all the goodies you need to plump up and rehydrate your skin (and lips!).”

The calendar contains 10 products from each of the sister’s three beauty brands, including skincare from Wishful, fragrance from Kayali and a host of make-up essentials from Huda Beauty.

Perfect for gifting loved ones or giving yourself a pamper, the calendar costs £105 and is available to buy now via the official Huda Beauty website as well as Harrods Beauty and Sephora Middle East.

But, because it’s limited edition and such great value for money, we predict the calendar will sell out fast, so you’ll need to act quick if you want to get your hands on one.

Whether you want to try out a refreshing new scent or give your skin an extra burst of hydration, here’s everything you need to know about the 1001 nights Ramadan gifting calendar.

Huda and Mona both noticed that fasting during the month of Ramadan wreaked havoc on their skin, leaving it feeling dry, dehydrated, and dull come the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations. So as a one-stop solution they created this calendar, which is designed to be opened every evening after breaking fast for the last 10 days of Ramadan, to help keep skin rejuvenated and revitalised during the holy month.

Behind each door of this limited-edition calendar sits one of the most coveted products from Wishful, Kayali or Huda Beauty, from skin-saving scrubs and masks to vibrant lipsticks and mascaras.

From Wishful, you will find three bestselling skincare heroes including the thirst trap cocoon mask (£8, Cultbeauty.co.uk), which featured in our round-up of the best sheet face masks. Infused with a blend of conditioning ingredients, our tester praised it for giving their skin a supple and dewy finish.

“We found it works best for use before you apply make-up and it leaves a lovely dewy glow after 20 minutes,” they said. “As the name suggests, it’s designed to treat thirsty skin, so if your skin feels a bit tight after cleansing, pop this on for a quick fix.” Other products from the skincare brand included in the calendar are a mini version of the yo glow enzyme scrub (£18, Cultbeauty.co.uk), which gently buffs away impurities, and a mini pot of honey balm jelly moisturiser (£43, Feelunique.com), which quenches thirsty skin.

The calendar also includes some of Huda Beauty’s make-up must-haves, including the haze obsessions eyeshadow palette in the shade “sand” (£27, Boots.com), which contains nine warm shades, ranging from creamy mattes to shimmering metallics. You’ll also find the brand’s legit lashes mascara (£24, Boots.com), silk balm mini gloss (£18, Cultbeauty.co.uk) and, one of our favourites, the liquid matte lipstick (£18, Boots.com) in the shade “bombshell”. The long-lasting formula featured in our round-up of the best liquid lipsticks, with our tester highlighting its ability to keep your pout feeling hydrated. “Feeling more like an oil than a lipstick, it applies lightly and is buildable in both colour and matteness,” they said. “Our favourite thing about this product was how non-drying it is on your lips – while it sets matte, it’s not too thick to lock out moisture, leaving lips with a subtle sheen.”

There are also some fragrances from Kayali including a double-ended rollerball (£23, Cultbeauty.co.uk) that features two eau de parfums – vanilla and musk – alongside a gold travel case to store it when you’re on the go.
