PS5 UK availability – live: Latest game and bundle news as fans wait for PlayStation to be restocked
The PS5 has finally gone on sale in the UK – to the select few who can get hold of one.
The console was released in the US and some other select countries last week, but has finally had its global launch on Thursday.
The day will be marked by fans receiving deliveries of their new PlayStations. But it will also be a day on which those many people who were not lucky enough to be able to secure a pre-order will be poring through the listings from shops such as Amazon, Curry’s and other retailers in an attempt to find in-stock consoles.
Here is all the latest on the release of the console.
Curry’s stock rumoured to be arriving at 11am
Stock Informer says that PS5s will go live on Curry’s website at 11am UK time – ie in 15 minutes.
Very has stock – and then it disappears
Very’s website was briefly updated with stock. But it’s sold out again.
When you go onto its website, it says that 46,000 people are also looking at the console. Just in case you needed a sense of how many people you’re up against. (You probably didn’t.)
Stock Informer returns
Stock Informer – which allows you to see where PS5’s might be in stock, and sign up for alerts to be told when they are – appears to be back online, sort of. You can find it here.
It isn’t especially useful, though: today it’s mostly out-of-stock informer. It does show some stock for the PS5 on eBay, but fans are very much advised not to pursue that route.
Morning rush of stock subsides as people look ahead to noon
Many retailers had promised that their stock would go on sale at 8am or 9am – and it did, though not for very long, and not without problems.
The next big test comes at noon, when Amazon has said that more stock will be going on sale.
Tesco has stock – then doesn’t
I think that might be something of a trend today.
Stock Informer comes back – then goes down again
Stock Informer, the very useful website that tracks the availability of all kinds of products, has been down all morning.
It briefly came back for me just now – but then went again. Still, it wasn’t entirely useful when it was up: as you’d expect, it just showed that everything was out of stock.
Stock arrives at Studio
According to people who can get on the website, there’s now PS5 stock here. (I can’t get on the site to look, but good luck.)
John Lewis website is entirely down
Not just for the PS5 – for anything.
Here’s what you see if you try and visit:
‘Buy PlayStation 5’ page on Sony website still not updated
Sony has a page on its website titled “Buy PlayStation 5”, and which promises to offer ways to buy it. But for now it still bears a message that the console “launches Nov 19, 2020" and no indication that it has been released, let alone where to get it.
Ultimately it’s not like they need to update it, given nobody’s going to be struggling to sell PS5s today…
Amazon, Game, Argos and other retails give information to customers as frenzy continues
That information, as you probably won’t be surprised to hear, is not all that promising: stock is expected to be short and late to arrive, if it arrives at all.
But there are some reasons to have hope.
