From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will go face to face for the very first time this evening, as the two men hold a press conference in Los Angeles.

The LA press conference is the first stopover in a lightning-quick press tour to promote their upcoming Las Vegas superfight, which will take place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Four days. Four cities. Three countries: the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Fans will be able to attend the press events for free, and for English fight fans, there are still tickets available to watch the two men calling one another out at Wembley.

It's hard to believe that there are actually going to be three more of these press conferences.

How are the pair going to avoid coming to blows?!

So, who won that first press conference?

Showtime are running a poll.

And it's close! 52% say Mayweather, 48% McGregor...

Naturally, a lot of fans aren't happy that McGregor had his mic cut during that press conference.

Especially considering he was throwing out barbs such as this...

And that just about brings our live coverage to a close this evening.

We'll see you again for the second press conference tomorrow night!
