From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

RESULTS UPDATE
Some results coming in now from the first batch of matches...
Last year's finalist Kevin Anderson was a comfortable winner against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who is partnering Andy Murray in the men's doubles - a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win for the South African.
On Court 2, Stan Wawrinka has also strolled through, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, against qualifier Ruben Bemelmans. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam 'Stan the man' hasn't won, but he's off to a good start in 2019.
Other notable results include Queen's champion Feliciano Lopez winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 against Marcos Giron, and 23rd seed Roberto Bautista Agut steaming to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Meanwhile, defending champion Novak Djokovic is about to get his 2019 campaign underway, with a tricky opener against German Philipp Kohlschreiber.
On serve so far on Centre - Djokovic 2-1 Kohlschreiber*
A reminder that the German did beat Djokovic this year at Indian Wells...
Novak Djokovic 4-1 Philipp Kohlschreiber*
A few errors from the no.1 seed, and Philipp has two break back points...
But Djokovic finds his rhythm again, and clinically sees out the game with an ace which catches the line.
*Novak Djokovic 4-2 Philipp Kohlschreiber
Philipp holds efficiently, putting the pressure straight back on Djokovic, who has been a tad inconsistent so far here...
Novak Djokovic 5-2 Philipp Kohlschreiber*
Despite a sloppy error at 15-0 by Djokovic, he takes control behind his first serve, and is now just a game away from the first set.
Novak Djokovic 5-2 Philipp Kohlschreiber* (40-40)
Philipp saves a break point at 30-40 as Djokovic goes wide with a passing shot, but he can't see the game out as he nets a forehand.
Back to deuce...
