England v Argentina LIVE rugby: Final score and result from autumn international as England lose by a point
England 29-30 Argentina: Emiliano Boffelli scored 25 points as the Pumas beat England at Twickenham for the first time since 2006
Winger Emiliano Boffelli scored 25 points as Argentina shocked a misfiring England 30-29 to claim their first win at Twickenham since 2006 and end a 10-game losing streak against the team they face in their opening game at the World Cup.
Boffelli scored a superb try and kicked six penalties as the Pumas went toe to toe with the favourites on a horrible wet day to give them a huge boost ahead of next September’s Marseille clash.
England led 16-12 at half-time, with Joe Cokanasiga’s barrelling try a rare attacking highlight and Boffelli landing four penalties to keep Argentina in touch.
The Pumas surged clear as Boffelli finished off a slick backline move and Santiago Carreras added a second try with a 50-metre breakaway, only for England’s replacement scrum half Jack van Poortvliet to score a minute after coming on. Argentina led by a point and it stayed that way after two more penalties apiece as England never threatened to turn it round and their November programme got off to a disappointing start.
Relive all the action as England lose to Argentina:
England 16-12 Argentina
42 mins: Great lineout defence from England as Hill rises highest to disrupt. Argentina get a scrum but it’s a set-piece marker laid down.
Steward then slides to catch a low bal and flicks the offload off the floor to Cokanasiga inside him with the Argentina defence closing. Great hands.
KICK-OFF! England 16-12 Argentina
40 mins: Back underway at HQ. Can England tighten things up in this second half?
England vs Argentina
Touch wood, it looks like the rain has subsided at Twickenham and it’s blue skies overhead.
WATCH: Cokanasiga gets opening try
Just one try in that first half and it came from Joe Cokanasiga as he barrelled his way over the whitewash.
HALF-TIME! England 16-12 Argentina
HT at HQ and England lead 16-12. They’ve been the better team, had far more possession but sloppy penalties have allowed Argentina to stay in it.
Joe Cokanasiga’s powerful finish the only try of the game so far.
England 16-12 Argentina - PEN Farrell
40 mins: No problem for Farrell from right in front and it extends the lead to four at half-time.
England 13-12 Argentina
40 mins: England put all sorts of pressure on the Argentina scrum. It’s going backwards, the ball squirts loose, panic in the Pumas ranks and a penalty conceded. Great scrummaging by Genge and Sinckler in particular.
Big celebration from Genge and it should be further points before the break.
England 13-12 Argentina
39 mins: Decent combinations from England as the props Sicnkler and Genge combine before Smith feeds the ball to the left. A few metres made but eventually the ball is knocked on in contact. Half-time approaching
England 13-12 Argentina - PEN Boffelli
38 mins: It’s been sloppy from England so far. They’ve had 69% possession but keep gifting Argentina points.
Kick-off comes, it’s dropped, one phase for the Pumas, then an offside penalty. Bang in front, Boffelli slots it with ease and Argentina back within a point. Very frustrating for England fans.
