Time for the Mexican national anthem as a squadron of the air force's version of the Red Arrows flies over the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Now this is a little unusual. Lewis Hamilton has been told to stand in front of the other drivers alongside Bernie Ecclestone and a number of other important-looking Mexican officials. With all the fuss over whether Nico Rosberg will be a 'boring' world champion, what does this say about the treatment given towards Hamilton? It certainly makes him stand out compared to all the others on the grid.
Final preparations underway now as the drivers don their helmets climb inside their cockpits to prepare for the warm-up lap and eventually lights out.
Esteban Gutierrez gets a good luck radio message from, of all people, Juan Pablo Montoya, with the Colombian now working as a journalist for American TV. Who'd have thought...
Anyway, Hamilton brings the field back onto the start/finish straight. Here we go...
Lap 2: The VSC becomes a full safety car, and while Hamilton still leads, it was a chaotic first lap. Rosberg had contact with one of the Red Bulls, but he looks to have gotten away undamaged. Vettel has carried on so it must be something else than a puncture. Rosberg was hit by verstappen coming out of turn two, and the German cut the corner as well in order to keep the position. Will he have to give it back?
