Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow the latest updates live from the Isle of Man TT in what is set to be the busiest day in the event’s history.

No fewer than five races have been scheduled for Thursday on top of two additional qualifying sessions as organisers attempt to squeeze in every race this week following the lengthy rain delays. After losing Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday to rain, action looks set to resume on Thursday with a bumper day of racing, ahead of Friday’s blue-riband Senior TT.

The action kicked off with superbike and superstock qualifying before Peter Hickman took victory in the two-lap supersport race two. The Birchall brothers, Ben and Tom, took their seventh Sidecar TT win with victory in race two, their 10th overall. When racing went back to the solos, there was still no stopping Hickman as he sealed a week hat-trick with superstock victory. Racing continues this evening with the two-lap lightweight race and one-lap TT Zero, with the day rounded out with a one-lap Senior qualifying. Follow the live action below.

What time does it start?

Thursday’s running at the TT begins at 11:50am.

How can I follow it?

Races are not shown live from the TT, so the best way to follow the action as it happens is with local radio or The Independent’s live blog throughout the event. Radio coverage is provided by Manx Radio over the fortnight, while live timing is available through the official www.iomttraces.com website.

Sidecar race two

Lap 1: Early drama here at the start of the Locate.IM Sidecar Race Two as the Crowe brother, Ryan and Callum, have had a small fire on the start line ahead of the race. They've been frantically trying to repair the damage, which appears to be the wiring loom, and as their slot comes up at No 11, they are absent from their slot. That's a huge shame for the pair.

Sidecar race two

Lap 1: The Birchalls are unsurprisingly out in front, but there's less than a second in it at Ballaugh to John Holden and Lee Cain and it looks like we've got a race on our hands! Alan Founds and Jake Lowther have had to stop while running in third though and are making adjustments near Sarah's Cottage, so his brother Peter Founds moves up to third.

Sidecar race two

Lap 1: It's proving another difficult day for Dave Molyneux and Tim Reeves, with the two fifth and sixth respectively and already more than 20 seconds off the lead.

Sidecar race two

Lap 1: The leaders have stretched the gap to Holden/Cain to 2.757s as they begin the climb up from Ramsey.

Sidecar race two

Lap 1: Ben Birchall is trying to break Holden on this first lap by pulling a further four seconds over the Mountain climb, and the two outfits are in a class of their own with more than 20 seconds on third-placed Founds and Walmsley.

Sidecar race two

Lap 2: As the Birchalls put another three seconds into the lead, eyes will start to turn to the clocks to see if they can have a crack at the sidecar lap record and the magical 120mph average.

Jack de Menezes6 June 2019 14:25

Sidecar race two

Lap 2: Blackstock and Rosney pull in at Glen Helen to make adjustments and lose a lot of time before getting back underway, and they had 13 seconds over Molyneux and Payne and could cost them fourth place.

Jack de Menezes6 June 2019 14:26

Sidecar race two

Lap 2: A check on Maria Costello, who is the only rider competing in both the solos and sidecars this year, sees her and passenger Julie Canipa running in 22nd and posting a solid lap of 102.41mph - their fourth consecutive lap over 100mph.

Jack de Menezes6 June 2019 14:28

Sidecar race two

Lap 2: The Birchalls are flying and stretch the gap to 14.6s at Ballaugh. Founds and Walmsley are not in a safe third place following Blackstock and Rosney's issue, but Molyneux and Payne have not moved up to fourth place as they've been overtaken by Reeves and Wilkes.
