Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow the latest updates live from the Isle of Man TT in what is set to be the busiest day in the event’s history.

No fewer than five races have been scheduled for Thursday on top of two additional qualifying sessions as organisers attempt to squeeze in every race this week following the lengthy rain delays. After losing Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday to rain, action looks set to resume on Thursday with a bumper day of racing, ahead of Friday’s blue-riband Senior TT.

The action kicked off with superbike and superstock qualifying before Peter Hickman took victory in the two-lap supersport race two. The Birchall brothers, Ben and Tom, took their seventh Sidecar TT win with victory in race two, their 10th overall. When racing went back to the solos, there was still no stopping Hickman as he sealed a week hat-trick with superstock victory. Racing continues this evening with the two-lap lightweight race and one-lap TT Zero, with the day rounded out with a one-lap Senior qualifying. Follow the live action below.

What time does it start?

Thursday’s running at the TT begins at 11:50am.

Hickman:

"We were trying so hard on the 600 to actually win a race at the TT. Monday was the closest we've ever been and we've had some input from Triumph which has been the difference. I had to pull my finger out in the first half as we know I'm always slow but I think the lap this morning helped as it got me going.

"I did 128 last year in great conditions, so to do it this year in not ideal conditions...that's only my sixth lap across the two weeks so I still haven't done a lot of laps. But it's awesome, well happy."

Jack de Menezes6 June 2019 13:35

Hillier:

"I don't know what we're doing wrong. That was maximum effort and I didn't have anything left there. I made a few mistakes early on but I knew it was going to be tough with a two-lap race.

"I can moan a little bit that I want to be on the top step but we deserved that, that was maximum effort. I don't know what we're oding wrong so if anyone's got any ideas..."

Jack de Menezes6 June 2019 13:36

Harrison:

"I got off to slow start but the conditions are getting better and better. I got my first board and it was P4 and I thought 'right pull your finger out' and then I got P3 and P2.

"I messed up coming out of Governers on the last lap and the rear came round and had to go over the kerb, but I feel good now, I feel good ahead of this afternoon."
