Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez claimed victory in the men’s doubles final at Queen’s Club.

Murray, who wins his first title in over two years, defeated Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram 7-6 5-7 10-5 in front of packed crown in west London.

For the Scot, who hadn't played for six months before this week, it is the perfect return to the game while Lopez adds the doubles crown to the singles title which he won earlier in the day.

Lopez & Murray 6-6 Ram & Salisbury*

A few wasted opportunities as Lopez looks to load up on his big whipping forehand and Ram and Salisbury hold.

We're going to a tiebreak.

Tiebreak: Lopez & Murray 1-3 Ram & Salisbury

Murray and Lopez succumb to the first mini-break in the tiebreak after another nice piece of reflex play at the net from Ram and Salisbury.

Tiebreak: Lopez & Murray 3-5 Ram & Salisbury

It stays with serve from thereon and it's going to be a struggle for Lopez and Murray to save this set after sharp volley winners are exchanged by both pairs.

Tiebreak: Lopez & Murray 5-5 Ram & Salisbury

But they've done it again; this time it's somewhat fortunate as Salisbury slips attempting a volley and has to go to the side of the court to brush himself off. We're back on serve.

Lopez & Murray 7-6 Ram & Salisbury

They've snatched it! Murray and Lopez clinch the tiebreak from the unlikeliest position thanks to a series of composed forehands from Lopez who's carrying the greater workload, it must be said. That's not what matters now though and the partisan crowd cheer on the duo as they take the upper hand in this final.

*Lopez & Murray 1-1 Ram & Salisbury

Ram and Salisbury respond well to hold serve at the start of the second set.

It's slightly more testing on serve for Murray and Lopez at 40-30 but they manage to see off the danger and remain in control.

Lopez & Murray 1-2 Ram & Salisbury*

Ram and Salisbury race to 40-0 but a fine piece of trickery from Lopez brings he and Murray back into the game, half-volleying a return to Ram's feet before flicking a backhand slice at Salisbury who can't control the volley. Murray sends them to deuce and the pressure is on.

Ram keeps his composure though and serves out the game.

*Lopez & Murray 3-3 Ram & Salisbury

Murray holds his serve and we stay on track. It's Salisbury now to serve, who has cracked on occasion thus far, but after a brief scare he too manages to keep the match on serve. Lopez follows in the same suit. There's so little to separate the two teams and we look destined to head to a tiebreak once again.

Tom Kershaw23 June 2019 18:57

Lopez & Murray 4-5 Ram & Salisbury*

It's a scare for Lopez and Murray as they're taken to deuce, but they hold their nerve to see out the game. The momentum has shifted now as Ram and Salisbury hold to love with a quickfire game to keep the pressure on their opponents.

Murray and Lopez will serve to stay in the set.

Lopez & Murray 5-6 Ram & Salisbury*

Murray and Lopez hold to 15 but again Ram but Salisbury and Ram fire back immediately, racing to a 40-0 lead after a fine series of swatting volleys.

Murray will serve to stay in the set.
