From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

A dominant India beat Pakistan by 89 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit group match at Old Trafford to maintain their unbeaten World Cup record against their arch-rivals on Sunday.

Put into bat in a stop-start match, India posted a commanding 336-5 with Rohit Sharma (140) smashing his second century of the tournament.

Skipper Virat Kohli (77) and KL Rahul (57) also got fifty but Mohammad Amir's (3-47) tight death-overs spell denied India a 350-plus total in the sold out contest between the arch-rivals.

A century stand between Fakhar Zaman (62) and Babar Azam (48) kept alive Pakistan's hopes until they suffered a batting collapse and finished on 212-6 in 40 overs chasing a revised target of 302.

Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar claimed two wickets each for India who now have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup.

38.2 India 234-2

WICKET! Rohit (140) b Hassan c Wahab

A moment of madness from Rohit! He tries to scoop the ball over short fine leg but can only guide it straight into the hands of Wahab. He screams in frustration, but that shouldn't take away from a brilliant performance. Rohit goes for 140 and leaves the pitch to a standing ovation.

39.0 India 238-2 Virat Kohli 30 Hardik Pandya 4

Pandya comes in at No.4 and quickly gets off the mark. He and Kohli will be looking to really go on the offensive now.

40.0 India 248-2 Virat Kohli 37 Hardik Pandya 5

India take ten more from Shadab Khan's latest over. Kohli took his time to settle into his innings while Rohit was in. Now he's taking charge, smashing one over mid-wicket for four and signalling his intent.

41.0 India 254-2 Virat Kohli 41 Hardik Pandya 9

Hassan does well to restrict India to six runs from the 41st over, but it might have been even fewer with better fielding. Kohli is an excellent runner between the wickets, though, and gets back easily for two with the final ball.

42.0 India 261-2 Virat Kohli 47 Hardik Pandya 10

Another decent over from Pakistan, this time from Wahab. The first ball is crashed over cover for four by Kohli, but the bowler recovers and India manage just three more from the remaining five deliveries. Pandya, who can be devastating when he's in form, has yet to get going.

42.2 India 268-2 Virat Kohli 48 Hardik Pandya 16

Pandya gets his first six in bizarre fashion. He swings at the ball and top edges it, but there's enough momentum on the ball to clear the boundary behind the batsman.

43.0 India 274-2 Virat Kohli 48 Hardik Pandya 22

Pandya gets a boundary with a more orthodox shot this time, whipping a full toss behind square leg for four. He still doesn't look entirely comfortable, though. Hassan ships 11 runs from the over but can consider himself slightly unfortunate.

43.1 India 276-2 Virat Kohli 50 Hardik Pandya 22

Kohli, as ever, takes two quick runs and brings up yet another half century. It's business as usual for India's captain.

43.5 India 285-3

WICKET! Pandya (26) b Amir c Babar

After a couple of big boundaries, Pandya is caught out attempting an ambitious helicopter shot. He loops the ball straight into the hands of Babar on the boundary, who takes it comfortably.

44.4 India 290-3 Virat Kohli 67 MS Dhoni 0

A poor ball from Hassan is flicked away for four by Kohli, who bring up an incredible 11,000 ODI runs. No player has reached the milestone quicker than India's No.3. A superb batsman. He adds another boundary to that immediately after.
