From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A dominant India beat Pakistan by 89 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit group match at Old Trafford to maintain their unbeaten World Cup record against their arch-rivals on Sunday.

Put into bat in a stop-start match, India posted a commanding 336-5 with Rohit Sharma (140) smashing his second century of the tournament.

Skipper Virat Kohli (77) and KL Rahul (57) also got fifty but Mohammad Amir's (3-47) tight death-overs spell denied India a 350-plus total in the sold out contest between the arch-rivals.

A century stand between Fakhar Zaman (62) and Babar Azam (48) kept alive Pakistan's hopes until they suffered a batting collapse and finished on 212-6 in 40 overs chasing a revised target of 302.

Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar claimed two wickets each for India who now have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup.

29.0 India 165-1 Virat Kohli 7 Rohit Sharma 95

Pakistan bring Amir, expensive early in the innings, back into the attack. India manage just one off a good over, though. Kohli is just feeling his way into the game, looking to find his rhythm at the crease.

30.0 India 172-1 Virat Kohli 9 Rohit Sharma 100

Rohit cuts the ball away for a single and brings up his second century of the World Cup! It's taken him just 85 balls, and it seemed an inevitability once he got past 50. A stunning display of batting from the 32-year-old.

31.0 India 181-1 Virat Kohli 16 Rohit Sharma 102

Pakistan bring Amir back into the attack and Kohli goes on the offensive, driving through the covers for his first boundary of the game. The wicket of Rahul has done nothing to unsettle India. These two are building another strong partnership.

32.0 India 187-1 Virat Kohli 20 Rohit Sharma 104

Kohli and Rohit bring up their 50 partnership, and they're content to just rotate the strike, collecting regular singles. The latter is in brilliant form. A fourth ODI double-century does not look out of the question for Rohit.

34.0 India 199-1 Virat Kohli 23 Rohit Sharma 113

India are just beginning to accelerate a little now. Shadab gets the ball spinning, but Rohit is equal to it, sweeping the ball to the boundary, before collecting another couple of runs off the final delivery of the over.

35.0 India 206-1 Virat Kohli 24 Rohit Sharma 119

Kohli hits one through cover and India bring up 200. They've got 15 overs left to rack up as many runs as possible. The target, no doubt, will be in excess of 350.

Imad is spinning the ball, too, bringing an outside edge from Rohit which trickles away for four. India's spinners will like what they've seen from this pitch.

36.0 India 214-1 Virat Kohli 25 Rohit Sharma 126

Short and wide from Wahab and Rohit lashes a cut shot to the boundary. India get nine runs from the over.

It's time for another drinks break.

37.0 India 220-1 Virat Kohli 29 Rohit Sharma 128

India take five runs from Imad's final over. They might start to consider speeding things up over the next few overs. They have wickets in hand and some big hitters - MS Dhoni springs to mind - still to come.

38.0 India 230-1 Virat Kohli 30 Rohit Sharma 136

India up the tempo, Rohit guiding one over short fine leg and for four. They get tun runs from a loose Wahab over and Rohit move closer to 150.
