It will take time for cricket community to accept David Warner and Steve Smith back, says England's Eoin Morgan

England's faltering World Cup campaign veered further off track as old rivals Australia booked their place in the semi-finals with a 64-run victory at Lord's.

After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.

With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

9.2 - Australia 42-0, A Finch 19, D Warner 21, J Archer 0-21 (4.2)

Shot! A first real err with regards to line from Archer, pushing the ball too wide across David Warner and a wonderfully timed square cut races to the cover boundary.

10.0 - Australia 44-0, A Finch 20, D Warner 22, J Archer 0-23 (5)

Seven runs from the over, and that'll be that for the first powerplay.

A very, very intriguing first ten overs, and Ben Burrows chips in from Lord's:

For a limited overs contest this one has had a very Test match feel to it so far. Crucial first hour, ball nibbling around under overcast sky, three slips in the cordon. Australia could easily be one or two down here with Chris Woakes in particular finding his line and length consistently. As ever when sticking the opposition in Eoin Morgan would've wanted wickets first up but it hasn't fallen that way. Perhaps a bowling change or two will bring them. Aaron Finch will be much the happier captain right now, of that there's no doubt.

Woakes will continue. England might be tempted to keep him going for a while longer with the ball still buzzing about like an overactive mosquito enjoying the muggy morning.

11.0 - Australia 45-0, A Finch 21, D Warner 22, C Woakes 0-20 (6)

The fielding restrictions have been lifted, but England still keen to keep it tight, and Woakes is rather good at that. Just the one from his sixth over. One more, at least, you'd feel?

Archer's opening burst has come to a close, however.

It's time for some Mark Wood.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 11:17

12.0 - Australia 50-0, A Finch 25, D Warner 22, M Wood 0-4 (1)

Quick straight away from Wood, leaving Aaron Finch hopping about after a ball thumps against him.

Down the slope Wood pushes his second delivery and Finch sends it on its way, a merry clip off the pads fine of the man at fine leg for four.

Wood is certainly trying to use that slope, pulling wide of the crease in his delivery stride and not looking to challenge the inside edge and pads of Finch. A leg bye brings up the Australia 50 before a Warner slash fails to find a leathery home. Five from it, four from the bat.

A brilliant opening spell from Chris Woakes has so far gone unrewarded. Can he find a breakthrough in his seventh over?

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 11:22

12.1 - Australia 54-0, A Finch 29, D Warner 22, C Woakes 0-24 (6.1)

A loose on-drive, but four nonetheless.

Woakes pushes the ball too full and Finch attacks, bringing the bat down at an angle but timing the ball well enough to beat the man at mid-on and out-pace the chasing mid-off fielder.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 11:23

13.0 - Australia 59-0, A Finch 33, D Warner 22, C Woakes 0-29 (7)

Aaron Finch has been cut in half on four or five occasions so far, but he responds wonderfully this time as a tiring Woakes again looks to go fuller, a lofted drive straight of mid-off finding the fence for the second boundary of the over.

And that's a rather nice way to presumably close your spell. Perfect seam position, a little bit of movement through the air, a little more down the slope, and past the outside edge.
