England suffered a shock defeat to Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup at Headingley.

Eoin Morgan's men were on a high after a blistering innings from the skipper himself powered them to a 150-run win over Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday. But they came crashing down to earth at Headingley as Lasith Malinga shredded their top order on the way to a famous win.

Here's how it played out:

Sri Lanka: 66-3 (15 overs)

Matthews is struggling here, still on 0 off 10 balls.

Wood bowled a beauty in that over, which narrowly missed the outside-edge.

Sri Lanka: 71-3 (15.3 overs)

A lovely four through the off-side from Mendis to start Stokes' third over, and then a run-out opportunity squandered by Woakes at the striker's end.

Needed a direct-hit, wasn't accurate enough.

Sri Lanka: 72-3 (16 overs)

And Matthews is finally off the mark with a quick single leg-side off the final ball of that over.

Short pause after the 16th over here as the players stop for drinks.

I'm off to get a coffee...

Sri Lanka: 74-3 (17 overs)

Very consistent from Mark Wood here, who is giving Mendis and Matthews no margin for error with his line bang on the off-stump.

Only two from the over.

Sri Lanka: 75-3 (18 overs)

Another very good over from Stokes, who is aghast at himself as he misses a run-out opportunity. Again, a direct hit was needed.

Only a single from that over, for Matthews.

Sri Lanka: 79-3 (19 overs)

Sri Lanka need to up the run rate here - currently at 4.12.

Moeen Ali comes into the attack, and concedes just four runs from his first over. Matthews yet to hit a boundary: he's on 4 runs from 21 balls.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:01

Sri Lanka: 84-3 (20 overs) Matthews 5 (24), Mendis 26 (43)

Stokes' first really poor ball is punished by Mendis. Full toss, in the slot, through cover for four.

Current partnership: 22 off 43 balls...

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:03

Sri Lanka: 87-3 (21 overs)

A delicate two down to deep point for Matthews, who is having to work very hard for his runs.

Another single leg-side finishes off the over, only 3 from it - good start by Ali.

Adil Rashid comes into the attack now, replacing Ben Stokes.
