Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley: YouTuber secures controversial split decision victory

YouTube star Jake Paul outpointed UFC champion Tyron Woodley to remain unbeaten and move to 4-0 as a professional boxer.

The favourite going into the fight, Paul was the busier boxer, according to the stats, and managed to convince two of the judges - whose scorecards have now been revealed.

Paul did have to weather a storm in the fourth round when he was stunned by a looping right hand by Woodley.

But in truth, Woodley failed to capitalise and his cautious approach cost him a genuine chance of winning the fight.

Woodley then demanded a rematch once the official decision had been read, with Paul offering him terms centred around a tattoo to roll it back for a second fight.

Here’s all the latest updates and reaction following the big fight and what comes next.

Jake Paul: We’ll run it back with Tyron if he gets the tattoo.

“I wasn't very happy with my performance, I felt wary. I don't know what it was. I got the job done against a five-time UFC champion. It is what it is, I'm known as the KO guy, I didn't live up to that. We'll run it back, with Tyron if he gets the tattoo.

“I've been boxing for three years and four days. I went in there, I didn't fight at my best. That's my first time going more than two rounds. I'm not too happy with my performance, it's only my fourth fight, nobody has done this on this stage. It's unprecedented. He caught me with a good shot, one shot out of eight rounds, cool. I took the shot, this isn't soccer, it's fighting, I've got a chin.

“We'll see what happens, I've been doing this for 18 months straight, I'm tired. My legs were tired. It is what it is, I'll go back to the drawing board and figure it out. I was built for this but people seem to forget it is my fourth fight. I'm doing things nobody has done before.”

Woodley demands rematch

Jake Paul gave Tyron Woodley a bit of respect in the post fight interview. He said: “Look, I don’t know what to say. But he’s a tough opponent, he’s been boxing, striking whatever you call it for 20 years. I’ve been doing this for three years.”

Then Woodley took the microphone and immediately demanded a rematch. He seemed genuinely angry that Paul was awarded the win.

Jake Paul outpointed Tyron Woodley in a tense eight-round contest in Cleveland to remain unbeaten.

The fight sparked to life in the fourth round when Woodley bounced a right off the top of Paul’s head after three rounds of composed boxing from the YouTube star.

Jake Paul wins by split decision! The crowd goes nuts so does the man himself.

Round Eight

Woodley starts with two wild punches and connects with a right hand but he backs off and lets Paul move around the ring. Woodley’s only option is for a knockout but he’s not going for it.

Paul has used the grapple to good effect. Whenever Woodley got too close he’s grabbing and holding on not allowing the punches to come in.

Woodley lands another straight right at the end of the round and both fighters raise their arms as the bell goes. This will be a close call but I think Jake Paul edges it and takes the win.

Round Seven

Jake Paul’s corner has him up in the fight which means Woodley needs to finish strongly but it’s Paul who’s controlling the round. He’s hiding behind his jab, staying on the outside and not letting Woodley in close.

Paul gets a good right hand to land on the bell and probably takes the round. This is his fight to lose now with just one round left.

Round Six

Jake Paul’s moving a lot better now. The crowd starts to boo as it’s a quiet round so Paul throws a three-punch combo to get them back into it but doesn’t connect well with any of them.

They come to blows at the end of the round before Paul grabs hold of Woodley. Paul’s starting to look tired now. Woodley finishes the round with a decent right hook.

Round Five

Uppercut then left hook from Woodley. He’s getting inside more often now. Paul looks like he’s feeling the effects of those hits. Woodley’s turning the fight around.

Woodley taunts Paul who responds in kind before landing a few jabs. This is a close round but Woodley might just have edged it.

Round Four

Woodley’s looking for one big shot to end Paul but the 24-year-old isn’t letting him get close.

Until now! Woodley catches Paul with a left hook and he’s rocked. He falls into the ropes and tries to find some distance from Woodley who follows it up with a straight jab and a combo.

Paul makes it to the end of the round but looks leggy.

Round Three

Woodley needs to work harder to get inside Paul’s jab. At the minute he’s not offering much. Jake Paul’s three-punch combo is winning him this fight. He’s got some pretty quick hands when he unleashes it.

Paul lands an uppercut but Woodley shakes it off. An overhead right from Paul just misses but he’s done enough to win the round again.
