Xander Schauffele is The Open champion after carding a faultless final round to hold off the challenge of Justin Rose and win his second major championship of the year at Troon.
Schauffele, who won his first major title at the PGA Championship in May, shot a wonderful bogey-free round of 65, with six birdies, to take charge of a dramatic final round and lift the Claret Jug.
The American made crucial birdies at the 11th, 12th and 14th holes to move clear of a frustrated Rose, as well as Thriston Lawrence and overnight leader Billy Horschel, after the trio shared the lead heading into the back nine.
Schauffele’s victory means all four of this season’s majors have been won by Americans for the first time since 1982, with Scottie Scheffler winning the Masters and Bryson DeChambeau claiming the US Open.
Rose matched his best Open finish as the 43-year-old birdied the final hole to claim a share of second along with Horschel, while 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry finished sixth.

Scheffler has found himself in the bunker on 14 and he needs the up and down here. He clips out to within touching distance of the flag and then taps in for the sand save.
Lowry makes par on the 15th, and it looks like his hopes are fading, especially considering how Schauffele is getting on.

Henley expertly guides the putt in to save par, so he stays within touching distance of the leaders at -4. Both himself and Horschel are still chasing but they’re finding birdies hard to come by.
At 13, Schauffele’s approach shot finds the green and comes to rest a few feet from the pin, slightly closer than Rose’s was. It’s an uphill lie but he measures it perfectly, draining it to move into the joint lead on -7. Rose can’t emulate that birdie though, settling for par instead. He remains two back on -5.
At 12, Lawrence leaves the rough but goes too far to the right of the green, and he can’t sink the putt for par. He moves to -6, out of the lead.

Lowry saves par on 14, but he really needs to start finding some birdies here.
Justin Rose lips out with his putt for par on 12, and he has his first bogey of the day. Could that cost him come this evening? He falls to -5, two shots off the lead.
Next on that same hole, Henley underplays the putt and may struggle to save par.
One back on 11, Lawrence taps in to save par and maintain his lead. His tee shot on 12 then finds the rough.
At 15, Lowry reaches the green in regulation but it looks too far for the birdie attempt.

Henley is plugging away on the 11th at the moment, but he won’t be finding the birdie there either as his approach lands too deep. His effort isn’t too far away, but it’s par nonetheless.
At 13, Lowry has a birdie attempt from distance, but once again he can’t quite manage to squeeze it in. He’s at three-under. Scottie Scheffler stays at -2 after making par.
Lawrence tees off on the blind tee at 11, and he finds the centre of the fairway. His approach is hit from 184 yards, and it creeps to the edge of the green.
Schauffele is the in-form man of the moment as he hooks himself out of the rough on 12 and makes the green with his second shot. Not sure there’ll be a birdie chance there.
Worse news for Rose, whose approach shot avoids the greenside bunker but rolls down the hill a little onto the first cut.

Rose tees off on 11 looking to avoid the tracks and bushes, and he does just that. Schauffele does the same, and both have avoided a potentially round-changing mistake.
On 10, Henley is the latest to fall short with the birdie putt. Lawrence’s approach shot gets to the green, but it’s not looking like a birdie chance from that deep.

The birdies are already starting to appear less frequently as the players make their way onto the back nine.
Lowry made par on 10, before his approach on 11 landed him with a difficult task to save par. He missed it, taking the bogey and moving to -3.
Both Schauffele and Rose settle for par on 10 too, but we do have a new leader! Lawrence chips his approach onto the green and kills it dead, landing a few feet from the pin and barely moving at all after. He’s at -7 now.
Elsewhere, Jon Rahm is coming to the end of his day after what was a promising start. He’s on the 16th at -1 as he hooks out of the bunker.

Lowry dropped a shot on 10, moving to -4.
Rose’s birdie attempt on nine is ambitious, and he falls short. He makes par though, and he’s shot 33 through the front nine. His playing partner, Xander Schauffele, can’t find the birdie either, so he stays on -5.
Burns sneaks up to -2, but there’s work to do to make some ground on the leaders.
Lawrence joins the leaders on -6 after holing a fairly straightforward putt on seven, and he’s got the Postage Stamp up next. So does Horschel, and he tees off straight into the greenside bunker.

Lowry’s blind tee shot at 10 takes him onto the fairway. Nice technique from the Irishman, cutting it left to right.
Rose has a birdie chance on the Postage Stamp but it’s from deep – and he holes it! What an effort, and he moves into the joint lead.
And an equally surprising event on nine Scheffler is putting from off the green for the birdie, but there’s too much on it. He misses the par putt, and it’s an easy knock to take the bogey, but he overcooks that too! He moves back to -2.
