Xander Schauffele is The Open champion after carding a faultless final round to hold off the challenge of Justin Rose and win his second major championship of the year at Troon.
Schauffele, who won his first major title at the PGA Championship in May, shot a wonderful bogey-free round of 65, with six birdies, to take charge of a dramatic final round and lift the Claret Jug.
The American made crucial birdies at the 11th, 12th and 14th holes to move clear of a frustrated Rose, as well as Thriston Lawrence and overnight leader Billy Horschel, after the trio shared the lead heading into the back nine.
Schauffele’s victory means all four of this season’s majors have been won by Americans for the first time since 1982, with Scottie Scheffler winning the Masters and Bryson DeChambeau claiming the US Open.
Rose matched his best Open finish as the 43-year-old birdied the final hole to claim a share of second along with Horschel, while 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry finished sixth.

The Open 2024 latest final round scores – SCHAUFFELE FINISHES ON -9
Schauffele misses the birdie shot but there’s still applause all round. Not celebrations yet, but there will be soon.
He knocks in for par to finish on nine-under, having shot 65 today!
Rose finishes with a brilliant birdie, curving it from right to left, and it’s a triumphant finish for the Englishman. He’ll wonder what could have been, but it was a ruthlessly professional display from Schauffele.

Rose clips his second shot of the 18th to within birdie distance, and Schauffele, not to be outshone, clips it almost exactly level.
The cameras flash to the Claret Jug being engraved, and the crowd greet Schauffele as a winner as he makes his way up the fairway.
At 17, Henley’s birdie attempt falls short in the battle for second place. He still hasn’t dropped a stroke today, but he’d need a minor miracle to win it from here.
Lawrence tees off at 17 and lands within birdie distance, but does it even matter?

Henley has moved up to -5 as he works his way up the 17th.
On 16, Lawrence’s 30-foot birdie putt goes short, and it’s the story of the day for the South African. So close on several occasions. Horschel birdies for -5, but it doesn’t look like either are bothering Schauffele.
Schauffele and Rose are teeing off on the 18th now.

Scheffler is up to the 18th, and he takes the drop after a poor tee shot that he topped into the bushes in front of the tee box. His ‘third’ shot gets him within approach distance. His next shot makes the green, but he might end the tournament on level par at this rate.
He just about finishes in the red though, with his fifth shot is short and his putt for the double bogey landing. The world number one ends The Open on one-under, having shot 72 today.
Englishman Dan Brown has also come to the end of his Open run for 2024, ending the competition on level par. He kissed the par shot on the 18th and shot 74 today. His top 10 finish will give him a place in next year’s Open too!

Both Schauffele and Rose make the green on the par-three 17th. Rose is 31 feet away from the pin – his effort has the legs, but not the right line, and he’ll have to settle for par.
Schauffele is lining it up from slightly closer than Rose – it’s pin high but wide. He’ll make the walk to the final hole knowing that a par is likely enough to give him a win at Royal Troon.

Schauffele to try and navigate the bunker onto the green – it’s almost perfect, as it briefly looks like it’s going in, but it pulls wide and presents an easy birdie chance. He knocks it in to go to -9 with two holes left to play.
Not something Justin Rose wanted to see as he looks for the 51-foot eagle opportunity, but he goes short. He gets the birdie to come back at Schauffele, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be enough...
At 15, Lawrence is still in it but his birdie chance is from deep, and he misjudges it.
Lowry makes par on the 18th to complete a round of 68, and he ends the tournament on three-under.

Schauffele’s second shot of the par-five 16th lands around 10 yards short of the green, but he could engineer a birdie chance from there. There is a bunker in his way though!
Rose opts for the driver for his second shot, around 295 yards out, and it splits the pin and the bunker, teetering on the edge of the sand trap before falling kindly.
On 18, Lowry finds the green in two, but it’s a difficult birdie shot there. It proves too difficult, as his effort falls short.
One back, Scheffler’s birdie putt skims the hole and goes long, so it’s -3 for the world number one as he makes his way to the final hole.

There’s one birdie for Lowry! He finally has his first of the back nine, draining from distance to take himself to -4. One more hole and you never know what a final birdie could do for you.
At 15, Rose needs to gain some ground on Schauffele. It’s not an easy putt for the birdie, and it doesn’t break to the left for him, so he’s forced to settle for par.
Will Schauffele extend his lead as he steps up for the birdie shot? Not this time. The leader is till at -8.
One back, Lawrence misjudges the putt and falls well short, converting for par.

Much kinder, calmer conditions have meant that the birdies have been coming thick and fast for portions of today, and somehow Schauffele is at eight-under. The commentators thought that a winner might be nearer level par at one point!
Great tee shots from Rose and Schauffele on 15, and both find the green in regulation, but very difficult to get birdies from where they’ve landed.
Horschel is in the rough but he punches it low to set himself up for the scramble. It’s agonisingly close to going in, too. Playing partner Henley is unable to convert the birdie shot, so he stays at -4.
Lowry’s latest birdie attempt skims the hole, and it’s not happening for the Irishman today. He has hope on -3, but you’d think he needs at least two birdies before heading in.
Dan Brown has fallen out of contention, currently sitting at -1 through 15.

Agonisingly close once more for Rose as another birdie attempt lands short. He stays on -5 through 15.
Schauffele has a good chance to give himself a two-shot cushion as he’s lying closer to the pin. It hugs the edge of the hole and falls in for -8!
Scheffler grabs another par at 15, but it looks like his race in run barring some serious turnarounds.
