"Major near misses are inspiration" - Open leader Oosthuizen

Collin Morikawa has won The Open after a stunning final round of 66 at Royal St George’s.

The 24-year-old American had started the day one shot adrift of Louis Oosthuizen but surged four clear by the turn thanks to a spectacular front-nine of 32.

Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm both mounted charges over the course of the back nine, but Morikawa then held his nerve under the most heightened pressure, with tremendous putts at the 10th, 14th and 15th to card a round of 66 and ensure himself of a two-shot victory

Follow all the reaction from what was a thrilling afternoon at Royal St George’s:

THE OPEN 2021: FIFTH BIRDIE FOR SCHAUFFELE

Schauffele then birdies the par-five 15th to move to -3, and match Fowler and DeChambeau at -5 for the day. The run of holes from 12 to 14 seem to presenting players with plenty of opportunities so far today.

THE OPEN 2021: FOWLER CLOSES WITH 65

Rickie Fowler’s chances of competing for the championship were rather ended by his 75 yesterday, but the American has responded today with a five-under-par 65 to match the lowest score of the weekend.

DeChambeau gets into the red as he makes back-to-back birdies at 12 and 13. That came after a stunning approach shot to the 13th green which left a birdie putt from three or four feet. DeChambeau is -4 for his round, with the par-five 15th to come.

THE OPEN 2021: UP AND DOWN FOR MCILROY

McIlroy gets back to where he started after making birdie at the par-three 3rd but immediately gets into another spot of bother at the 4th. His approach shot finds the rough at the left side of the green, leading to a tough chip which takes a bounce and runs about 10 feet away from the hole. The par putt runs past the hole and he then taps in for his second bogey of the day.

THE OPEN 2021: TOMMY FLEETWOOD UNDERWAY

Tommy Fleetwood sends his opening drive down the middle of the first fairway. The Englishman shot 70 yesterday to remain at -2 overall, but will be looking to make up a couple of shots today to move into the top 20. He’s playing with Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who has quietly had a solid week and is eyeing up a Ryder Cup spot for later in the year.

Bryson DeChambeau makes his third birdie of the day to move to -3 for his round and even par overall. The American has never shot sub-70 at the Open but looks in a good position to break that run today with six holes left to play.

THE OPEN 2021: SCHAUFFELE OFF TO FAST START

It’s another glorious day at Royal St George’s, and there’s certainly some scoring to be had in these conditions. Xander Schauffele has made it to the turn in 32 after picking up three birdies on his front nine holes to move to -1 overall.

THE OPEN 2021: OPENING BOGEY FOR MCILROY

A tough start of McIlroy. From the deep rough on the right side of the fairway, he skews his second shot into the rough on the left, about 50 yards from the green. His ball ends up behind a electronic scoreboard and after being able to move it by a couple of club lengths, his chips onto the edge of the green. The par putt rolls a foot past the hole and he taps in for his five.

THE OPEN 2021: RORY MCILROY UNDERWAY

Rory McIlroy gets his fourth and final round underway, finding the right edge of the long rough with his drive off the first tee. McIlroy shot a 69 yesterday, following opening rounds of 70, but it could have been a lot lower for the Northern Irishman, who was -4 at the turn.

Bryson DeChambeau, who has just completed his front nine, is under par for his round for the first time this week. The American is -2 through the opening nine holes, moving him to +1 overall.

It’s Rickie Fowler, however, who is setting the pace today, in terms of low scoring. Fowler is -5 for his round through 14 and is on a run of three birdies in a row to go along with an eagle at the par-five 7th. That puts him to +1 overall as it stands.
