Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 2018 Ryder Cup is underway at Le Golf National. Jim Furyk has selected Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka to lead the US team out in Paris and they will be up against Thomas Bjorn's strong opening pairing of Justin Rose and Jon Rahm.

Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen will play match two against Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, Paul Casey and rookie Tyrrell Hatton face Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in match three, before the much-anticipated appearance of Tiger Woods alongside the fiery Patrick Reed, who play Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood.

Who's playing?

Some of the very best golfers on the planet. Tiger Woods leads the American team while new world number one Justin Rose is Europe's leading light.

Who's going to win?

USA Evens

Europe 5/4

Draw 11/1

This was Johnson's crucial save at fourteen moments ago to beat off the looming dormie-four

Rory McIlroy & Ian Poulter (3UP) vs Bubba Watson & Webb Simpson

Now it's Poulter at fourteen with a great chance to extend his and McIlroy's lead to four but he's missed one. A wasted chance but they're still three up with four play.

This will be the first time Europe have won all the matches in a session at the Ryder Cup since 1989.

Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson (3UP) vs Dustin Johnson & Rickie Fowler

Rose has a birdie putt to win the match at fifteen. It's up the hill and he can take a run at it but it's a bit of a misread. Fowler still has a tricky one to half and it just about catches enough of the lip to extend the match down the sixteenth.

Rory McIlroy & Ian Poulter (3UP) vs Bubba Watson & Webb Simpson

Poulter has left McIlroy in the absolute perfect position on fifteen and this is a huge chance to apply pressure but he pulls it trying to cut down an iron. It's clung to the fringe but Simpson's return isn't all that much better. Two long birdie putts to come.

Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson (3UP) vs Dustin Johnson & Rickie Fowler

Fowler has left Johnson with a huge putt on sixteen to effectively save the match. It's dormie-three and anything but a birdie here should be enough for the Europeans.

And he's left it short! That will almost certainly be the first blood of the afternoon.

Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson def. Dustin Johnson & Rickie Fowler 3&2

There it is. Rose has two putts for it and it's just a few inches shy of going in at the first attempt. Their great partnership continues.

Rory McIlroy & Ian Poulter (3UP) vs Bubba Watson & Webb Simpson

Neither side can hole their birdie attempts so this one goes to sixteen. That's one match buried and two at dormie.

Ed Malyon: The crowd in Paris are on auto repeat:

“EUROPE’S ON FIRE, USA IS TERRIFIED”

Rory McIlroy & Ian Poulter (3UP) vs Bubba Watson & Webb Simpson

Dormie on the sixteenth and McIlroy stiffs it into the centre of the green. Simpson goes over the back. It's just a matter of time now. This one will be over too.
