From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Patrick Reed held off the challenge of Ryder Cup team-mates Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth to claim his first major title in the Masters, as Rory McIlroy suffered more Masters misery.

Reed carded a final round of 71 at Augusta National to finish 15 under par and a shot ahead of Fowler, with 2015 champion Spieth another stroke back after an astonishing challenge faltered at the last.

Spieth had rallied from nine shots behind at the start of the day to claim a share of the lead with his ninth birdie of the day on the 16th, setting up the chance to equal the course record of 63 or even match the major championship mark of 62.

But a terrible drive on the 18th for the second time this week led to a crucial bogey and more Augusta demons, after he squandered a five-shot lead with nine to play in 2016 in defence of his title.

Rafael Cabrera Bello and Tiger WoodsThere you go! After struggling all week on the par fives, Woods birdies the second with a nice chip over the bunker onto the green and holing out at the first attempt. That moves him to three-over for the tournament, and is the first step towards his aim of finishing the day at level par. Cabrera Bello meanwhile can only make par, so the pair are now level.

Chez Reavie and Phil MickelsonAh, there goes Mickelson's consistent start. He FOUR-putts the par-five eighth after getting his speed judgement horribly wrong, and compounds the error on the tee at nine by firing his ball out right and into the trees.

Jack de Menezes8 April 2018 16:58

Rafael Cabrera Bello and Tiger WoodsAnd it's bad news for Tiger Woods too as he immediately gives up the shot he got at the second with a bogey at three, dropping back to four-over. It's a three-putt that costs him, which hasn't been what he's been struggling with this week.

Ian Poulter in action on the fourth and final day

Jack de Menezes8 April 2018 17:05

Ian Poulter and Brian HarmanAnd speaking of Ian Poulter, he's ended the front nine with a much needed birdie to go out in 31 and spark a bit of momentum as he approaches Amen Corner.

Jack de Menezes8 April 2018 17:07

Rafael Cabrera Bello and Tiger WoodsIt's all eyes on Tiger once again as he birdies the fourth to get that shot back immediately, with a lovely tee shot on the par-three leaving him a nine-foot putt that he duly sinks. A few more of those please Champ.

Zach Johnson and Webb SimpsonThe all-American pair of Zach Johnson and Webb Simpson are on the move as they both birdie the long par-five second, moving them up to one-over and two-over respectively.

Jack de Menezes8 April 2018 17:15

Ian Poulter and Brian HarmanAnother impressive birdie for Poulter and he takes that momentum into the back nine, moving to five-over in the process.

Bernhard Langer and Fred CouplesBad news for Couples fans out there as he drops a shot on the third hole to move back to four-over. The veteran American enjoyed a wonderfully consistent round on Saturday, recording 17 pars and just one bogey. His form this week has been all the more impressive given it's the first time he's played golf since putting his back out in January, and he's admitted to struggling with back pain through each round since Thursday.

Phil Mickelson hits out of the bunker on the second hole on his way to a birdie

Anyone excited for what lies ahead?
