From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The Royal Rumble takes place this Sunday as one of the WWE’s flagship events returns for its 30th edition where 30 Superstars will battle for a world championship shot at WrestleMania 33.

In what is one of the year’s hotly-anticipated shows, the Royal Rumble has provided memorable moments that have gone down in WWE history, from breath-taking stunts to shock returns and surprise winners.

This year’s edition promises to be no different, with the added spice of the Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar rivalry included after both became the first entries into the Royal Rumble back in November following Goldberg’s stunning 89-second victory over Lesnar at Survivor Series.

The pair went face-to-face on the final edition of Raw this week, only to be interrupted by The Undertaker, who will also feature in the main event in the hope of claiming his second Rumble victory, while other names already confirmed include the likes of Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt and Rumble specialist Kofi Kingston, who has developed a talent for avoiding elimination by extraordinary stunts.

Along with the Royal Rumble, the WWE Universal Championship, the WWE Championship and the WWE Raw Women’s Championship will be on the line, as well as the Raw Tag Team titles and the Cruiserweight Championship.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2017 Royal Rumble.

Charlotte vs Bayley

Charlotte is just mocking Bayley, and displays an amazing display of athleticism as she flips Bayley around the ring while locking her in a headlock with her legs.

Meanwhile, someone has a Mr Bean sign in the crowd...

Charlotte vs Bayley

Bayley is threatening an upset here after rocking the champion with a face slam. She takes to the top rope, only to abandon her plan and position Charlotte beneath her. She delivers a soaring elbow drop and goes for the pin...2! Charlotte just kicks out a split-second before losing her title.

Charlotte vs Bayley

Figure 8! Charlotte, with blood pouring from her mouth, has Bayley in trouble, but Bayley counters as she rolls over onto her belly. Charlotte manages to get it back in her favour, but uses the ropes to help maintain the hold and the referee forces her to release the hold. Instead, she goes to the top rope, but her trademark moonsault sees her land on Bayley's knees. She pins Charlotte, but again it's only for two!

Charlotte vs Bayley

Charlotte's trapped on the turnbuckle, but she roughly throws Bayley off to the ground. Seeing an opportunity, Charlotte delivers Natural Selection on the ring apron and drives Bayley's head straight into the mat, before picking up the three count.

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

Next up, we've got a WWE first, as Kevin Owens takes on Roman Reigns with Chris Jericho suspended above the ring in a shark cage. You heard me right...the fight is also a no disqualification match, and this could be the time when Owens's title reign finally comes to an end.

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

Owens and Jericho makes their way out first, with the reigning champion receiving a thunderous reception. Reigns, as usual, is booed into the area, but Jericho is yet to enter the shark cage as the challenger makes his way to the ring.

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

Before Jericho gets into the cage, Jericho and Owens attack Reigns! Reigns fights back though and floors them both with right hands. He launches Jericho face first into the cage, before throwing him inside it and locking the door. Up it goes, and Air Jericho is away!

Jack de Menezes30 January 2017 00:38

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

Reigns punches Owens hard enough to knock him out of the ring, and they're soon marching through the fans where Reigns finds a metal post to hit Owens with, taking full advantage of the no disqualification rules.

Jack de Menezes30 January 2017 00:40

Kevin Owens vs Roman Reigns

Owens goes under the ring and pulls out an arsenal of chairs, bringing at least five out to attack Reigns with. He sets four chairs up facing each other, but Reigns is back up and attacks him, only to catch a TV monitor in the face.
