From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England will be desperate to build on their dramatic late victory against Tunisia and take a commanding stance in Group G when they take on Panama. Gareth Southgate’s side played some of the best football any team has produced in the tournament in the opening 30 minutes, but hit a wall when Tunisia equalised from the spot.
England’s team appeared to have been leaked after a photographer snapped the line-up written on paper held by assistant manager Steve Holland. Marcus Rashford may start over Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaces the injured Dele Alli.
Panama marked their first ever World Cup appearance with a 3-0 defeat against Belgium. The Panamanians fought hard but fell short of quality in the final third, picking up five yellow cards in the process.

Prediction
England 3 vs 0 Panama. Surely there is only one possible result in this game. Panama eventually crumbled under Belgium’s pressure and offered very little going forward. If England can replicate the standard of play they set in the opening exchanges against Tunisia, there is no reason why they can’t put a few past their opponents.
24 mins: Plenty of fouls early on from Panama against Belgium, and they are beginning to frustrate England with all kinds of tactics to try and put them off. But so far, England are keeping their heads, and getting the job done.
29 mins: A prolonged spell of possession from Panama. So far England are holding firm, Rodriguez eventually gets through to the byline, but his cross is poor and England can play out from the back again
32 mins: Enngland have a free kick after a foul on Sterling, Maguire heads it back across, but it's too pacy, and lands on top of the net
36 mins: GOAL! England 3-0 Panama (Jesse Lingard)
Lingard earned the penalty, and now he's scored a brilliant goal for England's third. He curled his shot around the defender and into the top of the net, in off the bar.
Belgium made hard work of Panama in the first half, and England made hard work of Tunisia...England v Belgium looking a really exciting prospect
40 mins: GOAL! England 4-0 Panama (John Stones)
That was a free kick routine straight off the training ground. Stones heads in from close range after a four-stage move that carved open Panama's defensive line. We had a lengthy VAR check for offside, but the goal stands
43 mins: PENALTY! It's another ridiculous melee in the penalty area from a corner, and England are awarded a corner after Harry Kane is tugged to the ground.
46 mins: GOAL! England 5-0 Panama (Harry Kane)
Harry Kane picks out the exact same spot and he hits it perfectly. This is the best ever England (scoring) World Cup performance. He's currently joint top of the goalscoring charts and has another 45 minutes to get his hat-trick!
HALF TIME: England 5-0 Panama
Yes you are reading that correctly! John Stones and Harry Kane with a brace apiece, and a curling effort from Jesse Lingard, leave England with an *almost* guaranteed passage into the last 16.
