Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England will be desperate to build on their dramatic late victory against Tunisia and take a commanding stance in Group G when they take on Panama. Gareth Southgate’s side played some of the best football any team has produced in the tournament in the opening 30 minutes, but hit a wall when Tunisia equalised from the spot.
England’s team appeared to have been leaked after a photographer snapped the line-up written on paper held by assistant manager Steve Holland. Marcus Rashford may start over Raheem Sterling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaces the injured Dele Alli.
Panama marked their first ever World Cup appearance with a 3-0 defeat against Belgium. The Panamanians fought hard but fell short of quality in the final third, picking up five yellow cards in the process.

Prediction
England 3 vs 0 Panama. Surely there is only one possible result in this game. Panama eventually crumbled under Belgium’s pressure and offered very little going forward. If England can replicate the standard of play they set in the opening exchanges against Tunisia, there is no reason why they can’t put a few past their opponents.
2 mins: Some early promise for England as Loftus-Cheek gets down the right, before Lingard takes an early elbow in the face from Gomez
4 mins: Panama have a free kick after a Jordan Henderson foul, but Harry Kane gets back to clear
5 mins: Panama looking dangerous early on the break, but Godoy can't finish and skews his shot wide to the left of Pickford's goal
8 mins: GOAL! England 1-0 Panama (John Stones)
Amidst all kinds of grappling from Panama, John Stones escapes his marker and heads home for the perfect start for England! That's his first international goal, keep a close eye on future corners as Harry Maguire could've had a penalty if that hadn't gone in
10 mins: Armando Cooper picks up a yellow for a late hack on Jesse Lingard. He'll now miss Panama's match against Tunisia as that's his second of the tournament
12 mins: Some dodgy passing out from the back for England, has gifted Panama possession a couple of times already. Against better opposition that could've been capitalised on
16 mins: A couple of niggly England fouls, and Barcenas gets a really good strike away, that has Jordan Pickford flying to the right of his goal. Just wide. Warning signs for England
17 mins: Roman Torres having a word with the referee, for what he feels is a late challenge from Sterling. Replays show he's made a meal of it
20 mins: PENALTY! Lingard brought down for what already feels like the thousandth time. Harry Kane will step up to take, after VAR have checked he wasn't offside
