Ivan Toney inspired Brentford to their first away win in the top flight for 74 years with a 2-0 victory at Wolves.

Toney almost moved to Molineux from Northampton as a teenager in 2014, the move collapsing when he failed a medical, so it was perhaps inevitable he would star as Wolves slumped to a fourth straight home Premier League defeat.

The 25-year-old had a goal, an assist and two disallowed in the first half alone as a clinical Brentford side got their first top-flight win since beating Leeds 2-1 in 1947, with Bryan Mbeumo also on target.

A second-half red card for Shandon Baptiste threatened to spoil Brentford’s afternoon, but, even though Wolves finished on top, they failed to score for a fourth league match out of five this season. Relive all the action below:

Liverpool 0 - 0 Crystal Palace

12 mins: Liverpool attack down the left again with Jota and Mane having switched positions. He combines with Tsimikas before driving at the box. Jota gets into full flow but Cheikhou Kouyate comes across and wins the ball with a well-timed tackle.

9 mins: Chance! Liverpool come the party with some good play on the left wing. Tsimikas gives the ball to Sadio Mane who powers his way round three Palace defenders before slipping the ball into the box. Tsimikas makes an underlapping run to collect the ball and then squares it into Diogo Jota. He shifts the ball to the left and the blasts one at goal only to send it wide of the far post.

6 mins: Liverpool have started very poorly. Their back line seems quite shaky and Kostas Tsimikas gives away another free kick, this one over to the right of the penalty area.

Conor Gallagher swings in the set piece but doesn’t beat the first defender and Liverpool clear the danger.

3 mins: Chance! Conor Gallagher belts a free kick into the box and Christian Benteke wins the first header. Diogo Jota fails to clear the ball properly and it comes out to Gallagher. He flicks it back into the box where James Milner and Alisson Becker struggle to communicate. Neither player goes for the ball and it bounces over the goalkeeper. Alisson is left scrambling but he manages to flap the ball onto the post on out behind for a corner.

Liverpool 0 - 0 Crystal Palace

Kick off: Liverpool will move to the top of the Premier League table if they manage to pick up all three points against Palace today. There’s another great atmosphere inside Anfield. This is going to be a tough test for the Eagles.

Crystal Palace get the match started with a long ball up to the right side. Jordan Ayew win the header but knocks it down to Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara.

The teams make their way out onto the pitch at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp has made six changes to the team that defeated AC Milan during the week. Andy Robertson starts on the bench but there’s no Trent Alexander-Arnold who’s unwell.

Sadio Mane could become the first player to score in nine consecutive Premier League appearances against a particular opponent and he has 99 goals for Liverpool in all competitions.

Mo Salah needs two goals to reach a century in the Premier League for Liverpool. His 100 goals to date include two for Chelsea and Virgil van Dijk is one short of 100 Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace earned their opening victory of the season last weekend by beating Tottenham 3-0. This is their first league match of 2021-22 against non-London opposition.

Odsonne Edouard is the first player in a decade to score more than once on his Premier League debut.

Christian Benteke has scored five Premier League goals at Anfield as a visiting player, one more than he did while playing for Liverpool.

Wilfried Zaha’s next Premier League appearance will be his 250th.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool have gone 14 league games without defeat, the longest current unbeaten run in England’s top four divisions with 11 wins and three draws.

The Reds are the first side since Chelsea in 2009 to have had 100 shots on goal after four Premier League matches of a season.

But, a seventh Premier League home defeat of 2021 would equal the club record for a calendar year, set in 2012
