A torrid week ends with Arsenal top of the table. There are worse places to be and they could be four points ahead of Manchester City before the champions play again. Amid talk of a summer overhaul that may be needed to take them to another level, they received another reminder of the enduring merit of Leandro Trossard. Pound for pound, the Belgian is a contender to be the best buy of Arteta’s reign and while his opener was fortunate, it may yet have an added value. After a flood of goals had given way to a drought, Trossard delivered Arsenal’s first in 239 minutes of football. It was unstoppable if imperfect in its execution. Martin Odegaard’s altogether smoother finish in the 95^th minute secured victory.

A goal in either half gives Arsenal a much-needed win after a difficult week, with the Gunners beating Wolves 2-0 at Molineaux. Despite going into the interval behind by a goal thanks to Trossard’s sliced shot from 18 yards out, Wolves did not appear to respond after the restart, allowing their opponents to see even more of the ball in an attempt to control the tempo and see out the result. Things picked up for the hosts after the introductions of Sarabia and Lemina after 50 and 70 minutes respectively - the latter playing as a forward - but Wolves left themselves too much to do by that stage. Raya had a single save to make in the second half - a comfortable stop from Lemina’s curling effort, while Arsenal fired 16 shots after the restart alone, with Odegaard doubling the visitors’ advantage two minutes from time with an accurate strike from a difficult angle. The single-goal advantage is enough to see Arsenal once again go first in the table, ahead of a London derby with Chelsea on Tuesday, while Wolves stay 11th and host Bournemouth on Wednesday.
